D&D 5E (2014) What is the Deal with the Twilight Cleric?

I didn't want to derail the other thread, so I moved this comment over to its own space. Because I'm a gentleman. Here's the quote: This isn't the first time I've read this about the Twilight Cleric. There are several threads out here on EN World that just casually mention the Twilight...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I know right? I've visited that thread a couple of times and tried to pick up on the discussion, but it's impossible. Nothing but broad generalizations and adamant declarations. Nobody wants to listen, they just want to be told they are correct.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

What a hot take. "It used to be cool. But since I left, it's totally not cool anymore." Nobody has ever said that before, about anything. ----- Sorry I'm late to the thread.

I had to really zoom in to see the OP's message:

Ugh. House-hunting is stressful. I just put an offer in on a house in Portland, Oregon. We'll see how it goes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

I know, right? It's pretty bold to consider myself an expert of something that has only existed for (checks calendar) a few months.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I'm curious what a multidimensional scale from zero to ten would look like.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

Yeah, I know. I did my best trying to come up with benchmarks between "never played it" and "I wrote it," but there's definitely room for improvement. What benchmarks would you have used?

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

This is a good point. Or that you've even read them: one of my players wrote a spell point system, not realizing that one had already been written in the DMG. :) And in the other direction, I imagine a lot of people would be thinking "I consider myself a TEN because I wrote some house...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

I put myself at a 5...I'm familiar with the rules and the supplements, and I'll tinker around with them a little bit, but I'm not proficient enough to come up with an entire new game mechanic. For example, I'll tweak things for flavor and ease of use--let the sorcerer pick spells off of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

How familiar are you with 5th Edition D&D's rules? How comfortable are you with tinkering around with them? Rank yourself on a scale of zero (never played 5E) to ten (I created 5E).

    D&D 5E (2014) Free5e on Kickstarter

This is an excellent idea, and I am happy to support it. Normally I eschew Kickstarter, preferring to do business with their competitors who have taken firmer stances against crypto and AI...but I think it could do a lot of good for the gaming hobby as a whole, so I'm backing it.

Combating My Own Boredom as a Player

I tend to zone out during combat. Like you said, it's usually the same thing over and over again for four hours: move, press A, press B, end turn. The rest of the story is so much more interesting to me--exploring, talking to NPCs, disarming complicated traps, solving puzzles, figuring out...

D&D General Is Your DM Out to Get You? [Humor]

Over on Reddit, I came across an excellent example of an unreasonable DM who is clearly out to ruin his players' fun. The DM had prepared an adventure where the heroes would remove a vengeful spirit from a sweet old lady's house. The adventure started, and Kevin decided that he wanted to leave...

    Cookin again

Pro tip: get a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid (we repurposed a quart-size yogurt container.) Put all of your vegetable peels, trimmings, end pieces, stems, etc. in it, and keep it in your freezer. When it gets full, dump it into a pot and make vegetable broth out of it.

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

We've been 100% online since the lockdowns began. Last time we talked about it, there was no interest in going back to in-person gaming...babysitters, traffic, parking, designated drivers, etc., aren't worth the trouble anymore now that VTTs have become more viable as alternatives.
