ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I mean, where do we draw the line? To your example, is Dragonbane a Runequest "rip-off" because it has ducks in it still? Over the editions it's become less and less Runequest mechanically.

AD&D 1E AD&D players and referees, what do you think of ascending AC?

Yeah, I'm just saying I don't make the switch while playing AD&D because... I'm lazy.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

I don't like Zweihander or Daniel Fox particularly but this is such a weird tack to take, imo. I mean, that's like most games? Like, should we boycott Rifts (not for the other, many and valid reasons) but because at its core it's house-ruled AD&D? What about Delta Green? I could go and on here.

    Is TTRPGing an "Expensive Hobby"

I absolutely agree with most people here. It absolutely requires nothing. All you really need is a notebook and pencil and some sort of random number generator if you're willing to do work. If you're willing to do less work you can buy a couple books and just play forever. It's how we did it in...

Tomb Raider Licensed RPG Announced by Evil Hat Publishing

I know Evil Hat publishes non-FATE stuff like Monster of the Week and what not, but honestly surprised this isn't running on some version of FATE. Are they stepping away from it?

AD&D 1E AD&D players and referees, what do you think of ascending AC?

What, having a 30% chance to climb walls at level 10 not good enough for you?

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

Yeah, it makes sense from a business standpoint as it absolutely was a WFRP clone at conception, that is indisputable (see its multi-year development on Strike to Stun). But once WFRP 4e came out removing it from that origin made sense, as well, you can just play that and not have to re-skin...

AI in Gaming (a Poll) [+]

That's a fair point. I was referring to prose and images generated by AI directly. But yeah, I mean, at this point you can basically just have Grammarly write for you, so

AI in Gaming (a Poll) [+]

If I'm paying for a product there should be no AI derived content in it. I can just prompt AI tools myself, not going to pay you for it.

AD&D 1E AD&D players and referees, what do you think of ascending AC?

Ascending. I only use descending when I'm literally playing AD&D. Any of its clones that use ascending AC or allow for the option, I do. It's AD&D with added spreadsheets.

DCC Level 0 Character Funnel is a Bad Concept

Those are just the Impact Miniatures dice in a different tube sleeve. They are the most common iteration. There are also the Zocchi versions, which I prefer. And were the only game in town when I started. If you don't like the shapes of the Goodman/Impact ones try the Zocchi ones as they are...

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

Yeah, that's true. I'm not saying it's too much crunch for me ( I like a good FATAL circumference table) but just marked it as odd considering his rather vociferous contention when I talked to him about too much prescribed specificity in RPGs. That said my biggest complaint about Shadow of...

Shadow of the Weird Wizard Is Finally Here!

I find it kind of strange that what started of as "Shadow of the Demon Lord but with the all the icky setting stuff taken out for people who hate fun" turned into "Shadow of the Demon Lord but with all the icky setting stuff taken out for people who hate fun, but also lots more crunch". I...

Technology is not the problem, protecting creators is

You'll note that my post never actually commented one way or the other as to the merits, or supremacy of any system (not becuase I don't wanna have a good internet argument, but because I don't want to tread too hard on the no politics rule). I simply pointed out the unambigious and objective...

Technology is not the problem, protecting creators is

That's 100% true. But also extremely reductive. What's also true is that capitalism is explicitly designed to exploit the many for the benefit of the few. You can have your quote be true without also designing an economic system to explicitly do that very thing as a feature, right?

Technology is not the problem, protecting creators is

The blockchain is a solution to a problem that does not exist. "What if we utilize the blockchain to do financial transactions, only far slower and consuming vastly more amounts of energy in the process" is an example. Eventually they'll figure out that when nobody is working, nobody can buy...

DCC Level 0 Character Funnel is a Bad Concept

Right. I think it's dependent on what kind of theme/mood you're going for. If this is sort of a Dying Earth/Conan thing where sorcerers are all evil and there's hooded cultists with curved daggers around every corner and you're chilling at the courts of chaos at 1st level, then the magic...

    Hugo Awards controversy

Yeah, agreed. The community did what they were supposed to do, they voted and raised the point of improper votes and the committee ignored them. That's on the organization to fix.
