D&D 5E (2014) How Important is Stranger Things to the Success of 5e

Minor, positive. I'd say social media had a much larger effect.

    The Weather

We have the windows open this morning for the first time in over a week. It's been hot here in Philadelphia. Another heat wave starts tomorrow, with 5 days of 90F+ weather. It could hot 100F on Thursday, just in time for my wife's appointment downtown. I was at a pool party last weekend in...

Best action film series of the last 20 years

I love the first Yp Man, but if we’re doing series, I have to give it to the later Mission Impossibles. They keep getting… better??? (in defiance of normal franchise logic).

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

Sure. Hauer’s Roy Batty secures his place in movie history, full stop.

Have some Bettie Serveert. “Dust Bunnies” is one of the 90s best albums.

What film(s) have you seen the most times?

Let's see... an honest answer would all be films from my pre- and early-cable childhood. So it's probably like a 6-way tie between... THEM! Yellow Submarine (every Thanksgiving morning) Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion Godzilla vs the Smog Monster Operation: Petticoat (I also watched...

    D&D 5E (2014) Toxicity in the Fandom

Aren't 'flaming' and 'trolling' also invented buzzwords? (sorry)

Sandman Trailer (and Neil Gaiman commentary)

Damn. The Death clip with the violinist — taken directly from “The Sound of Her Wings”, right? — put tears in my eyes this morning. Quite a few really. Strange world we live in. Many things are bad, but I can turn on the TV (it’s a large immobile phone for the kids in the audience) and see...

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

Peter Weller played Buckaroo Banzai, William S. Burroughs, and Robocop. That’s a trifecta in my book (no disrespect to Lance). Also, it can be mathematically proven Rutger Hauer is the poor man’s Rutger Hauer.

    D&D 5E (2014) Toxicity in the Fandom

Soap was a half hour sitcom that parodied soap operas. Had a great cast. My mom liked it.

I think it’s Billy Crystal on Soap, 1977. He was part of the regular cast.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

I’m amused by all the people who seem to have forgotten that prior to the release of Jackson’s trilogy, he was best known for zombie gore comedies and a movie that ends with Kate Winslet helping her girlfriend bash her mom’s brains in with a rock. Not exactly the guy you’d trust with the Silver...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

Hey, I’ve definitely run D&D scenarios involving brunch. I just don’t need a source book about it. (which isn’t to say I didn’t buy The Complete Book of Elf Brunches back in the 90s… it was a long time ago and my memory isn’t great anymore).

    Orville: New Horizons (Spoilers)

That last episode was pure classic Star Trek. It presented both sides of the argument: the right one and the wrong one. By the end the government threw realpolitik into the trash bin and did the most idealistic thing possible in defense of trans... ahem, Moclan female rights. So glad this...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

Ah, the classic “use-value” vs “splat books about Elven brunch customs-value”. I don’t really have a blink dog in this fight since I mostly homebrew. That said, I like the 5e fiction-bits but have a great deal of fondness for the 2e-era splats & related supplements.

    D&D Movie/TV Here's The D&D Movie Trailer!

The barbarian in my current game is a lawyer with anger management issues. Anyhow... this looks legitimately good. It feels like they nailed the tone. Is Pine coming off a bit Nathan Fillion these days, or is that just me?
