    D&D 5E (2024) Rules that annoy you

Healing Potion as a Bonus Action has been mentioned so I will add: Species not granting any ASI or at least species having maximum non-magical limits on strength to account for size. Ignoring Loading property of Heavy crossbows with Crossbow Expert Being able to load a crossbow without a free...

D&D 5E (2024) Has the new PHB reveals made you want to stick to an older edition of D&D, or to move onto a 5e-adjacent RPG?

Soft of. For Fantasy, I am more interested in Barbarians of Lemuria (with the Sword & Sorcery Codex), Honor+Intrigue (possibly with inexpensive non-human and magic supplements), Savage Worlds, BASH Fantasy Legend of Steel and Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells. Even Fantasy Hero 4e and d6 Fantasy...

TSR Did you play D&D Holmes without knowing it?

Nope. Modvay/Cook B/X was not a thing when I was introduced to Holmes Basic.

Quick, while everyone is focused on the 5.24 PHB...

My first non-D&D game was either Boot Hill (2e), Gamma World (1e or 2e), or the original Top Secret while I was in junior high. That is about all I recall.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

Regarding backgrounds, I like how they split the Guild Artisan/Guild Merchant into Artisan and Merchant. I also liked the inclusions of Farmer, Guard and Guide. I do wish they had kept Urchin separate from Wayfarer. Since they have Acolyte, I do wish they had included both Wizard Apprentice...

D&D General What Classes Would You Add to D&D?

@Mind of tempest To add to the above, If I recall, correctly, among the Dine' (Navajo), Skinwalkers are powerful evil witches (male or female) that gained their shapeshifting by killing a close relative. Definitely, a negative connotation.

    D&D 5E (2024) The 10 Species in "Your Ideal 2024 PHB"

I edited my prior post adding Goliath and combining Gnomes and Goblins under Fey (with the addition of Kobold and Sprite to Fey). My alternate (and not serious) list in which the species are all stylized in a big eyes, small mouth anime style: Human Arachne Centaur Cyclops Harpy Lamia Mermaid...

    D&D 5E (2024) The 10 Species in "Your Ideal 2024 PHB"

Human Dwarf Elf Halfling Deva Fey (Gnome, Goblin, Kobold, Sprite) Goliath (without the temporary growth ability) Lizardfolk Orc Shifter As for Half-Dragon, Half-Elf, Half-Ogre,Half-Orc, etc., I would do them as feats that must be taken at first level.

D&D 5E (2024) Which subclasses “should” have been in 2024

I agree. If they are going to a Dancer, I'd rather see it either as its own class (as done by Taron Pounds) or a non-spellcasting rogue subclass.

D&D 5E (2024) Which subclasses “should” have been in 2024

Personally, I would remove Swashbuckler from Thief and, between Fighter and Thief, I would include a light armor fighter class with the following subclasses: Brawler/Pugilist, Corsair/Pirate, Duelist/Fencer, Kensei/Swordmaster, Musketeer, Swashbuckler,

D&D 5E (2014) What PC species should return for 5ed?

    Regardless, I liked the Deva.

D&D 5E (2014) What PC species should return for 5ed?

I thought it was because of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender and, maybe, Doctor Who. Depending upon how one interprets the end of Heavy Metal, it can also work for Taarna dying and the girl becoming the new last of the Taarakians.

D&D 5E (2014) What PC species should return for 5ed?

I forgot about the Deva. Definitely, should be included. While waiting, Mike Evans at DIY ( wrathofzombie.wordpress.com ) has a Deva for 5e.

D&D 5E (2014) What PC species should return for 5ed?

Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, and Half-Ogres. edit: Lizardfolk (and give environmental variants), Gnolls, and Shifters in addition to the three above.

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

I think there are some nice tweaks/additions. However, for my fantasy tastes, I don't see anything to make want to buy the PHB. I find the new subclasses (with the possible exception of the Circle of the Sea Druid), the increase in healing (adding healing abilities, making some class healing...

D&D General Weekend Fun: What Fantasy Movie Does Your Ideal D&D Campaign Look Most Like?

It was a failed tv pilot in the US that aired in 1981. It was later released as a movie in Europe under the title Archer and the Sorceress. edit: I read that it is available on Amazon Prime, but have not verified it. Also, if I recall correctly, the arrival and meeting of the barbarian leaders...

D&D General Weekend Fun: What Fantasy Movie Does Your Ideal D&D Campaign Look Most Like?

Dragonslayer and Ladyhawke with a bits of influence from Archer: Fugitive From the Empire (a.k.a. Archer and the Sorceress), Beastmaster, Excalibur, Harryhausen (Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, Sinbad), Heavy Metal, Labyrinth, Lord of the Rings (both), Willow, and Pirates of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Which subclasses “should” have been in 2024

Barbarian: I don't know, but something to replace the World Tree Bard: I would have preferred they created a Cantor/Divine Bard, a Druidic/animal-friend Bard (for the Disney princesses), or even a College of Sea-Singer/Shanty Bard to include rather than adding the College of Dance and even the...

Yeah, I would have ditched them too.

Do any other old school gamers hate the term grognard?

I have no problem with the term. I enjoy a lot of different games. However, since Crawford has taken over the direction of D&D, I have found myself becoming more of a grognard toward D&D- especially, with regards to the new subclasses and many (but not all) of the changes/additions to specific...
