    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Cleric"

If running 5e, I will 1. Steal Divine Order as I had planned, but tie specific option to specific deities in the campaign setting 2. Steal this version of Divine Intervention, but limit it to a cleric's domain spells and a handful of shared spells since clerics in my campaign setting have a...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

Too bad. It is a good game. Is there a particular reason you have not been able to get them to play? Lol. I too don't think fantasy X-men are "kewl". If I want supers, I have Icons: Assembled Edition, BASH!: Ultimate Edition, Mutants & Masterminds 2e, Mutants & Masterminds 3e/DC Adventures...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

I found this to be dependent both upon group and that published adventures had more magic items than the rules suggested (at least in 1e as I never bought/ran 2e adventures).

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

True. However, spellcasters could have their spells disrupted just by hitting them and wizards only had d4 hp/level. As for paladins and rangers, they had prerequisites one had to meet in order to qualify and they did not get spells early. Bards were optional in 1e and you had to go through...

How Accommodating to Player Preferences Should the GM Be?

In general, my answer to that player would be no. I might ask the player why they want to play that concept and see if there is something in the setting that can otherwise accommodate what they are seeking. However, I am not going to do allow someone from another world or some entirely weird...

D&D General D&D Editions: Anybody Else Feel Like They Don't Fit In?

No, you are not alone. I started with Holmes Basic. I enjoyed the feel of Basic D&D and AD&D 1e provided I ignored things like psionics (due to mechanics), Expedition to the Barrier, certain spells, and certain monsters,. The same was true of early AD&D 2e using the core books and some of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) All 48 Player’s Handbook 2024 Subclasses

Agreed. I am up for more non-casting classes and subclasses. I have not seen it in play, but a former poster Jody Lee Johnson did a Warlord class for 2014 5e. If I recall correctly, it was, originally, published by ENPublishing. Now, it is on DMsGuild for $.50. It has 4 out of 5 stars with 15...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

As an aside, the dwarf with the torch above, along with the dwarves in Disney's Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs using candles and lanterns, is why I am for removing darkvision from dwarves.

    D&D 5E (2024) All 48 Player’s Handbook 2024 Subclasses

Yeah, for myself, there are only two or three subclasses not from the 2014 PHB that would see use if I run the 2024 edition. More likely, I am going to borrow 2024 elements such as background feats (and, maybe, background attribute modifiers), cleric holy orders, new conditions, and spell revisions.

D&D 5E (2014) Fighter should be called Knight and Monk Should be called Fighter, change my mind

Interestingly, up through the early 18th century, pugilists were trained in both unarmed fighting and some weapons (sword, dagger, buckler, and cudgel (and/or quarterstaff)). Their unarmed techniques included not only punches, but some kicks (e.g. shin-kicks), throws, chokes and grappling. They...

D&D 5E (2014) Fighter should be called Knight and Monk Should be called Fighter, change my mind

I think @Juxtapozbliss is referring to knighthood in our history, generally, being limited to men. Edit: ok, I think it is as jmartkdr2, wrote about dame being the female equivalent.

D&D 5E (2014) Fighter should be called Knight and Monk Should be called Fighter, change my mind

Yet, there were some orders that allowed females. There was also the Order of the Hatchet which was established after a group of women defended their town from Muslims. Also, we are dealing with a fantasy game, so there is no reason that women need be excluded from being knights.

D&D 5E (2014) Fighter should be called Knight and Monk Should be called Fighter, change my mind

I'd split Fighter into soldier and lancer (cavaliers, cataphract, samurai, etc). I would then add a martial artist class for non-woodsy unarmored and light armored warriors (e.g. corsair/pirates, pugilists, kensei swashbucklers). Monks would then become a ki based subclass of martial artist or...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal #1: "Everything You Need To Know!"

Overall, from the videos that I have seen, the nicest thing that I can say is that there is a lot of pretty artwork and I will, likely, adopt both the orc and backgrounds from the playtest and 2024 phb. I might also borrow weapon masteries, but I am going to look at some third party takes first.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

I don't know about anyone else, but I am not a fan of the dwarves' tremorsense or the 2024 edition's version of the Goliath.
