Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

I pledged a dollar to give me more time to decide what level I want to pledge. I know I want the core rulebook, the two Western Reaches books, and all six Cursed Scrolls. I am just hemming and hawing on whether to get the Premium slipcase and the Premium Core rule book- Smyth-sewn is so tempting.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

For me, it depends on the day, but the choice is between Across the Spider-verse Ant-Man Black Panther Big Hero 6 Captain America: Winter Soldier Into the Spiderverse Iron Man Honorable mentions: Captain America: First Avenger, Superman: The Movie (1978), The Incredibles

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I am interested in seeing the Witch and Warlock classes. The Knight of St. Ydris not as much. However, Cursed Scroll issues 2 and 3 also look very tempting. I need to decide in the next day or two if I can afford to lay out for the Kickstarter level with with the original book, the Western...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I agree. As I am looking at various OSR games, I am looking for games that don't try to convert directly. I recently found a Bard class that wasn't trying to do another mash of Skald, Celt/Welsh bard, Troubador and/or Minstrelm but the creator suggested having different "Bards" instead. That is...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I am watching the Necromancer video right now. I like it. I have been working on a priesthood for a deity of Death for an OSR D&D campaign and, while mine is less martial, it has a Death Sense and many of the same spells including sleep (the deity is also a deity of dreams and sleep. As such...

    D&D 5E (2014) Users of D&D 2014 - What are you using from 2024? +

As I wrote in the other thread, in addition to Bloodied (and based upon videos from both Treantmonk and the Dungeon Dudes), I will be pulling the following additions, revisions, and clarifications from 2024 Cleric Divine Order (but making my own modifications since I had already been working on...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

I found them in the Expanded Conditions document by Dump Stat Adventures on their website. The page on their site that explains their thought process on the new conditions is a mess of ads so I just linked to the PDF document itself.

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

Yes, I am going to be bringing in additional conditions as well. I will be using Dazed from the playtest, Diseased, and the following conditions that I have found online from Dungeon Coach, Dungeon Dudes, Dump Stat Adventures, and Spilled Ale Studios: Bleeding, Burning, Clumsy...

    D&D 5E (2024) What are your 2024 houserules?

In addition to Bloodied (and based upon videos from both Treantmonk and the Dungeon Dudes), I will be pulling the following additions, revisions, and clarifications from 2024 Cleric Divine Order (but making my own modifications since I had already been working on something similar prior to the...

Desert Island RPGs (or which RPGs would you play for the rest of your life?)

Hmmm. Quickly, from the top of my head: 1. Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (a.k.a. SWADE) 2. ? Icons: Assembled, Mutants & Masterminds 3e, or BASH: UE depending upon my mood on a given day 3. The powers supplement for whichever supers game I choose for number 2 4. SWADE Horror Companion 5...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I know people did that due to the internet. The closest, I saw was one or two Basic groups using the 1e Monster Manual. However, most people I knew played 1e with house rules and then jumped ship to 2e and dropped 1e entirely in the process with only one group sticking with 1e and not touching 2e.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

You may have meant to. However, that is not what you wrote. You said "We may have treated the Complete 2e books as optional but that is not how they were presented." And prior to that you wrote And, that is what I responded to with regard to 2e and the Complete books. However, even what you...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Wrong. Some gamers may have treated them as non-optional, but they were optional First, the 2e PHB there was sidebar stating that the Bard, Druid, Ranger, Paladin (along with Priests of Specific Mythoi and Wizard subclasses) were optional. So, by extension, the Complete Books for the Bard...

My experience is the same, but UA was also, definitely, optional.

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

I didn't say that I don't want class/levels mechanics for 5e. Not wanting them for licensed IP that I like does not mean not wanting them for 5e D&D or other non-licensed games. I posted earlier that I, personally, don't want any IP I like to use 5e mechanics. Micah Sweet asked me why and I...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Yes. I don't like class/level systems for licensed properties. The same goes for the tendency for designers to keep a lot of D&Dish mechanics to keep familiarity for fans of 5e players. edit: I do think a better job can be done with 5e than 3e or d20Modern, but a lot of issues I have would still...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Change brought with new editions can be good, bad, or neither I prefer the underlying mechanics of 5e, but not the fantasy (including the majority of the subclasses (and find 5.24 to be even worse)). I prefer the fantasy of the 2e corebooks with a few of the class handbooks and earlier D&D, but...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

Honestly, I don't want any books, movies, television series, or comcs that I like to be done by this design team using 5e. I would prefer they be done using one of a few other systems

    What RPGs genres are lacking?

I can't recommend Sidewinder: Recoiled (Dog House Rules) for Savage Worlds enough. There was also a d20 Modern version back in the day, I will add GURPS Old West: Revised Edition (Steve Jackson Game): a GURPS historical genre sourcebook for GURPS 3e Western Hero (Hero Games): a genre sourcebook...
