    Should Epic Be In PH1?

I agree with the OP. Putting the Epic stuff in the core book, while leaving out gnomes, bards, half-orcs, barbarians, etc, seemed like they were trying to pawn off something they knew most people wouldn't buy to sell something they knew most people would buy later.

    A Tale of Two Covers

I had a bit of a re-model done on the front cover for Honor + Intrigue (swashbuckling RPG based on the BoL system) and am seeking feedback as to which looks best. First we have the blue backdrop: And then we have the updated "faded" image: Which do you like better, and also why?

Thoughts: 4 Classes + Talent Trees?

I think this is it. Have a Warrior class and have Ranger, Fighter, Paladin, Monk, etc, be "kits" that extend from it. Have a Priest class with Cleric, Druid, and Favored Soul kits. A Mage class with Wizard, Illusionist, Warlock kits. Rogue with bard, thief, and ninja kits, etc. I think...

D&D 3.x How is this going to work? BECMI & 3.5 & 4e players all at once?

I have a feeling that Saving Throws may be dead, actually. It is just easier to say make a Con check against that poison than make a Fort or Death save. That way you can vary things like okay this spell causes paralysis; but it does so by putting your brain to sleep, so make an INT check vs...

Thoughts: 4 Classes + Talent Trees?

One of the selling points so far on 5e is the idea of it being as basic / nuanced as you want depending on play style. One way I can think of to accomidate this is by having there be only 4 base classes, and adding optional "talent trees" to these that allow the player to customize the...

    D&D 5E (2014) A 5e BECMI?

BECMI added maybe 1 class per setting book. So the Dwarves of Rockhome had rules for Dwarf Clerics. The 5 shires book has rules for the Hin Master (prestige) class. They did release some race books, like "Tall Tales of teh Wee Folk" but those races were definitely seen as optional, not...

D&D 3.x How is this going to work? BECMI & 3.5 & 4e players all at once?

Skills were introduced later on in BECMI, and they were a part of the Cyclopedia. They called them "non-weapon proficiencies" but they were skills. You are correct that they were based on attribute rolls, however. But I don't see this working. There is a chasm the players have to jump...

    Number of PHBs and DMGs

Agreed that this was the wrong move. Instead of releasing 1/3 of the race/classes for levels 1-30 on day 1; they should be releasing ALL the race/classes for levels 1-10 on day 1. They could still divide it up into 3 books, just make levels 11-20 and levels 21-30 separate books? What makes...

D&D 3.x How is this going to work? BECMI & 3.5 & 4e players all at once?

One of the things that caught my eye about this new edition is that it is meant to appeal to "all styles of play" so someone from a BECMI background can play with a 3.5 person can play with a 4e person, etc, and yet all be playing the same game. My question is how will this work mechanically...

    D&D 5E (2014) A 5e BECMI?

I don't think so. Because had they done the BECMI model in 4e there'd be no rage because there WOULD have been a Bard in the first D&D book. There would have been gnomes and half-orcs, etc. All for levels 1-10. You could then later buy a book for levels 11-20, and a third book for 21-30...

    D&D 5E (2014) A 5e BECMI?

Rules Cyclopedia / BECMI "Weapon Mastery Table" was the single best innovation that any D&D brand game has ever done in history. There has never been a better way to represent a warrior's increasing skill with a particular weapon; not even Feats touched this. It made Fighters BADASS without...

What SuperHero RPG do you play ?

Well it is a simple system; but it is also robust. You can add more complexity to a character if you want, but you don't need to. On its surface, there are only 3 stats with only 5 (technically 6) non-cosmic tiers of ability. For some people, that is not enough "granularity". No problem...

Okay so here are some characters. But first, I CANNOT believe I didn't post a mockup of the cover yet! My bad! You can see it on the Pre-Order page as well, but I should have had one in the thread too. And now for some Characters. These will likely be included as pre-gens in an adventure...

Wizards getting character choice feedback from CB

Another problem is "wow a lot of people are taking this feat/power/race/build over the others. We'd better nerf it." Personally I'd prefer if the reaction was "we'd better make the other options more useful so people won't feel that Feat/power/race/build X is a "non-choice".

Monsters that are a Waste of Pages

The Owlbear. It has no abilities that separate it from an ordinary bear. Essentially it is just a re-skinned bear with a more weird/horrifying appearance. While I appreciate the concept, it doesn't "do" anything special as a monster.

Lizardfolk and (revised) Bullywug as Race

In AD&D 1E and 2E bullywugs had a "hop attack" that let them do double damage with impaling weapons on the first attack. That's where I get it from. The reason it's a weapon attack is it makes sense that way- an attack where you land on someone after a 30' jump seems to make a lot more sense...
