    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

Actually a better option might be to let the shift feat allow you to Shift 1/round separate from your movement. Then it is very much worth taking.

    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

I get that; in the case of Charge as a feat, I think it is great. It is a special ability to move twice and still attack, instead of letting everyone do it, and try to make some sort of bonus/penalty thing with it. It makes the game and in play tactics easier and smoother to run. But in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Barbarian Ninja

Well, actually, it all has to do with "reskinning" the action. One way of describing the effect of her rage, or 'battle trance' is that she is AUTOMATICALLY deflecting all the attacks (which is why she takes half damage from them) since Deflect is just some damage reduction anyway (which uses a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

I know; and I'd rather take the *infinitely more useful* Fast Movement feat or Charge instead of that one.

    D&D 5E (2014) My Barbarian Ninja

I thought about that too; I might check with GM to see if he'll allow me "Immune to Alcohol" as a trait instead, so she can drink like Jackie Chan in Legend of the Drunken Master. But I've also been considering dropping the "drunken" part of the character entirely, as the "battle trance" ki...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Barbarian Ninja

One thing about your build; you won't be able to really use Deflect much; when you are raging, you cannot use Reactions. Regarding Kodachi, she DOES use STR to hit while in her battle trance; remember that Finesse weapons can use EITHER STR ***OR*** DEX. You can choose to use STR when you...

    D&D 5E (2014) My Barbarian Ninja

So I played in a 5e game where we were supposed to make characters who were descended from our old characters. My old character was a Half-Orc Monk, and I wanted to make this new character be his daughter, also a Monk, but with a bit of a darker edge to her; more like a ninja. She'd be 3/4ths...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shift Feat: Usefulness?

So I have a character and I want to ultimately take the Strike & Fade feat; which has the (unfortunate?) pre-requisite of the Shift feat. Shift allows you to move up to 5 feet on your turn without incurring Opportunity Attack. I can see how that might be moderately useful, but can't we...

    D&D 5E (2014) Future playtest adventures

    Isle of Dread, for sure.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sacred Shooter

I had a similar concept the character was an Accolyte of Apollo.

    DDN and Campaign settings

Mystara & Hollow World. If they had Keep on the Borderlands, why not have Karameikos (where it actually took place)? Another good thing would be Spelljammer, and Planescape.

    ENnie Award Winners 2012

Wow, I only just was told a few moments ago that Honor + Intrigue won a "Judges' Spotlight Award". This took me completely by surprise (when I looked at the list, I didn't see the Judge's Spotlight here so I missed it, and it was only when somebody emailed me about it that I learned of it)...

Character Creation Now Supported: Let's Make Some Characters!

I'm looking forward to the Warlord being introduced; this concept doesn't seem to work as a regular Fighter given the options presented: Character Concept: Centurion Human Fighter, Background: Centurion (One I made up, Skills: Intimidate, Geog. Lore, Prof. (Military) Lore), Specialty: Dual...

Two Weapon Fighting and Deadly Strike

Then it seems like Dual Wielding is a sucker's bet. The upside is you can *potentially* kill 2 Kobolds a round IF you have an 18 STR or DEX. 1d6+4/2 = 3.75 DMG on a hit. Getting to add 1d6/2 increases that to 5.5 Dmg to a single target. If you hit the same target with both attacks, you do...

Two Weapon Fighting and Deadly Strike

True, but I don't think you get to use Deadly Strike twice and halve the result both times. It seems like you'd "get" to expend your 1 Deadly Strike / round to do 1d6/2 extra damage on a hit that is already doing 1d6/2. And the other attack... if it hits at all will only do 1d6/2 (you have no...

Two Weapon Fighting and Deadly Strike

If somebody is using Two Weapon Fighting or Rapid Shot, and they hit and use Deadly Strike, is the Deadly Strike damage also halved, or is that separate?

Character Creation Now Supported: Let's Make Some Characters!

I went with a Halfling Fighter w/ Sharpshooter fighting style, Woodsman Background (I guessed proper skills as Natural Lore, Stealth, and Survival, wish I could have also had Spot and Animal Handling, but extra skills might be a Ranger feature). Oddly enough I did NOT take the Archer specialty...

Character Creation Now Supported: Let's Make Some Characters!

Now that we have the tools to make characters for D&D Next, let's start making some characters. I'm envisioning a halfling archer. What are you going to build?

If they're serious about "flatter math," then WotC needs to deal with ability scores.

    I'd be okay with them changing it to this scale: 18 = +3 16-17= +2 13-15 = +1 9-12 = +0 6-8 = -1 4-5 = -2 3 = -3 It flattens the math, and also is a tip of the hat to BECMI.

    D&D 5E (2014) So...what [should be] next?

Personally, I'd like to see them at least explain all the "rolled in" mechanics of the character sheets. As is, it's obvious that there are mechanical stuff they are not explaining, and just putting into the character sheets. I'm not sure if this is an attempt to make the game appear "simpler"...
