D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

If the OGL is revoked and WotC is enable to enforce it, the Nazis might have to lie about the extent of their compatibility.

ITT people have different preferences. Should be good for another hundred pages.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I somehow feel less anonymous than you, Captain. In any case, because it might actually help, take a deep breath and go back and look at your responses to @jgbrowning. Here, I'll copy-paste for you: That's a publisher you're dictating to. Does that really seem like "open discussion" to you?

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

This is something I really want to happen, but KB press, more than most, on every possible level, really need to take their time.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

The Motley Fool's investment advice has a mixed record, but they've generally been good advocates for the rights of investors.

The Moral of the Story Is....Maybe there's such a thing as (D&D being) too big

I think before this fiasco, those sorts of fears were considered "gatekeeping."

I think they got what they wanted

I agree with others that it still matters what happens with the license. Maybe most of the big 3PPs still go off and make their own games, but some won't. And even beyond that, if there's a usable license publishers can build a business on, others will rise to fill that space. If there's not a...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

No doubt past statements by former WotC employees would play a role in resolving the question!

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I think this is the key question that would need to be resolved by a specific court in a specific case.

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

I can't really say I understand what the point of NFTs is, but could you take this text from the SRD, write it onto the token, pair it with some artwork, and try to sell it to kids, many of whom are already buying such things from unscrupulous digital game publishers? Vorpal Sword Weapon (any...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

When we were kids, my friends and I had a great time rolling up and playing through random dungeons together. It's not the way I want to spend my time now, but I don't think the bar is super high for something that could be a fun experience for many players.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Please stop arguing with publishers about what publishers are going to do. At the very least, if you believe your opinion is valuable, advise them on what they should do. Your repetition of "the trust is gone" and insistence that you know what publishers are going to do is incredibly tiresome...

I'll be shocked (shocked!) if they don't.

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

Um...maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Do you think WotC will maintain their licensing agreement with Roll20 once their VTT is up and running?

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

I don't know about any of this, but based on Reddit, long before there are true AI-run dungeons, there will be an arena.

Potential Positive Outcomes of the OGL Fiasco (+)

The billion dollar question is whether those two are causally connected. The Skaff Effect states that any activity in the RPG space will accrue to the benefit of the market leader. Is the inverse true? Does the "waning" of the market leader cause decreased activity in the RPG space? To keep...

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

Well, I was in agreement with your point, so I'm not sure where that leaves us. I'd like to see Wizards simply out-compete other VTT platforms. I don't think they're going to do that. I don't think they will continue their licenses with Roll20, et al.

95% of you didn't need the OGL and you don't need ORC

But that's his point: You won't necessarily have to argue copyright. You have contractual rights granted by the license, until and unless a court agrees that WotC can "deauthorize" or otherwise revoke it.

Somewhere at the Wizards of the Coast severance facility, a worker just moved your icon into the "will only pay a sub for D&D if forced to" bucket.
