    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Oh. Yes, it does say that. I don’t know why my brain just decided to ignore those words you definitely wrote… sorry about that, my mistake!

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Uhh… The wording of the rule you’re posted doesn’t actually say that anywhere though…

In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

That’s exactly what this Beth Shapiro person is saying. Not according to Shapiro herself. From the linked newscientist article: It all comes down to how you define species, says Shapiro. “Species concepts are human classification systems, and everybody can disagree and everyone can be right,”...

In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

Any definition of species that allows animals of different Genus to be considered the same species is not a useful definition.

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

I mean, this is just reflective of the state of the games industry. 10+ years ago, big single-player RPG series were what the publishers were willing to stake money on. Nowadays, they only want to fund live service multiplayer games. Anthem notwithstanding, BioWare's string of failures are all...

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

For sure! Nah, I bowed out of the WoD scene when NuWhiteWolf took over. Also, not to get into politics, but even if I wanted to go, it's not safe for me to travel out of state right now. Sounds cool though, I hope you have fun!

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

Wonder if it’s anyone I know. I used to be very involved in the WA WoD scene. Though, that was over 10 years ago now, and I was in the LARP crowd; not sure if the tabletop scene is different.

D&D General Do you play in person or online?

In person, if at all possible. I’ll accept online if it’s the only option though.

D&D General Do you track ammunition?

I’m planning to try out an ammunition die mechanic in my next campaign. Instead of tracking individual missiles, you have an ammunition die. When you spend ammunition, you roll the die, and on a 1 you reduce the die by a size category. When you roll a 1 on a d4, you have only one use of the...

D&D General What happened to the “wotc fires several sigil staff” thread?

Probably got merged with one of the other two active threads about the same topic

D&D General What is your personal Appendix N?

Arbitrarily choosing a few sources each for worldbuilding and aesthetics, sorted in a very rough descending order… Worldbuilding Inspirations: Dragon Age Delicious in Dungeon It feels like cheating to say it, but D&D, particularly the 4e implied setting “New” WorldChronicles of Darkness...

D&D General Why Combat is a Fail State - Blog and Thoughts

In today’s episode of “Charlaquin is a pedantic know-it-all, but at least she’s self-aware about it,” clouds are, in fact, made of liquid water. That’s why you can see them, because the water vapor in the air has condensed enough to form liquid droplets.

D&D General Why Combat is a Fail State - Blog and Thoughts

I saw a YouTube video recently that talked about room (or scene) description in terms of rendering. In animation you generally render in varying levels of detail depending on what’s needed, and refine the render as the need arises.

D&D General Why Combat is a Fail State - Blog and Thoughts

I’m not an active OSR participant, but I find a lot of what the OSR folks do very interesting and often aligned with what I aim for in D&D. From that perspective, I think “combat is a fail state” is probably overstating the sentiment. The real underlying idea seems to me to be that combat ought...

D&D 5E (2024) Wargamer Takes Shot At WotC for Not Respecting Forgotten Realms Canon.

Lore developments are not disrespectful of canon. Just because the purple dragon knights haven’t been known for taming dragons before, doesn’t mean they can’t gain a reputation for doing so. That’s how linear chronology works.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Is Talking About AI in D&D Again

Well, yeah, that’s generally how a free market works. I’m just saying, I don’t think Cox has a specific idea for a service he wants to provide here, he just has the nebulous concept of “AI is a thing you could charge people for on a monthly basis” and he wants WotC to start doing that.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Is Talking About AI in D&D Again

I mean, presumably you had a reason for asking the question in the first place, right? If the truth value of the answer didn’t matter to you, you could have just made the answer up yourself. I guess it isn't a “problem,” in the sense that the stakes are extremely low, but if you asked a question...
