    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

That still leads to the question of if being unable to be seen when someone is looking directly at you is one of the benefits of the invisible condition. Certainly by a plain-English reading it would seem like it ought to be. And the fact that no spell that grants the condition specifies that it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Better yet, the hidden condition itself should have just said what mechanical benefits you get from having it, since the word invisible implies that something under said condition cannot be seen, even if looked at directly.

D&D General If Nentir Vale were in the Forgotten Realms, where would they be?

Right, but OP was asking about the small area within this setting that’s actually called Nentir Vale.

D&D General If Nentir Vale were in the Forgotten Realms, where would they be?

You mean “4ce” = Mass * Acceleration. If you want to render it with mass first it would be Mass = “4ce” / Acceleration.

Sure. And what text in the rules leads you to this interpretation?

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

I certainly think that’s how it should work. But the only effect 2024’s hide action is that you gain the invisible condition while you’re hidden. Pretty redundant if you already have the invisible condition. Also, if the invisible condition itself doesn’t make you hidden… how exactly does one...

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

No need to wonder, one of the people who designed it is the opening poster of this thread. It’s been a while, but if I remember what @mearls said about the design decision way back in the D&D Next Playtest, they considered more robust rules but found there were a lot of corner cases and trying...

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

That is one definition of the word hiding. It is not clear from the text that it is the intended meaning, because there are other definitions of the word. This is why game rules text often defines specific technical language, because plain English is often ambiguous and ambiguity is not...

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

And the thing about the English language is that words have fuzzy definitions. “Conditions aren’t appropriate for hiding” doesn’t necessarily mean someone or something can’t be hidden there, especially if they/it initially hid under different conditions.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

I mean, the best case scenario would be that the rules just be phrased in a way that doesn’t require such fuzzy interpretation. But accepting that the wording is going to require fuzzy interpretation whether we like it or not is probably necessary.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

5e never had surprise rounds. By RAW, surprised creatures still rolled initiative in pre-2024 5e, they just couldn’t take actions or reactions until the end of their first turn in combat (which you had to roll initiative to determine when in the count that occurred, since they could take...

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

The problem is that the rules don’t explicitly define being outside the conditions that the DM determines to be “appropriate for hiding” as causing a hidden character to stop being hidden. If this is not explicitly stated, there is room for ambiguity.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

Sorry if I misunderstood your level of seriousness with the comment. But, in general, people tend to react defensively when told they should go play a different game if they don’t like XYZ about whatever game they are playing.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

Optimizers are people, with complex sets of desires and priorities. Building an optimized character might be something they are interested in doing, without ability to optimize being the primary deciding factor in what ruleset they choose to use.

You’re not wrong, but also people are allowed to express displeasure that a particular “fix” that they would have liked isn’t in the book.

But it could be to one’s benefit to have already heard the likely arguments.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Hiding and remaining hidden are not strictly synonymous. Yours is a possible interpretation of the text, but it is not an unambiguous interpretation, hence the failure of this as a pice of game rules text.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Nowhere is that condition stated to be required to remain hidden, only to make the initial Dexterity (Stealth) check to become hidden.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

I would too, but since the rules don’t actually say that anywhere even after getting errata’d, I can only assume that is not actually the intended functionality. WotC has had no shortage of opportunities now to just write into the rules that you can stop being hidden if the DM decides your...
