[OOC] Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden [recruiting 1 player]

Gotcha! I just advanced the scene to the Tourmaline gem mines in the IC thread.

(IC) Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden

GM POST Brydum exchanges warm handshakes with you, the once sour guard seeming to have grown a fondness for your party... even Zeth who'd slaughtered the Dwarvish language. He receives all the keys you retrieved in the temple, and promises to inform the Dain of your valor. "Farewell. I hope...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

I think your example is really interesting - You’re describing an accessibility issue!

D&D 5E (2014) Should the Paladin be changed into a more generic half-caster magic knight?

"Should" probably is a marketing question about what most D&D players connect with. For me? I'm over 40 and like the OG paladin. For younger players who are the target audience? My guess is the magic knight trope has more traction than the holy knight.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D at Pax preview adventure

I'm impressed they could fit 1 to 3 fights into under 30 minute videos! ;)

[OOC] Quickleaf's Rime of the Frostmaiden [recruiting 1 player]

Quick check-in: I wasn't clear on your plan... I also was sensing you might be ready to move on with the murderer quest, so I was trying to use the NPC Brydum to communicate "You have an out of this little dungeon if you want it"...

D&D General Will you play the Revised 2024 rules?

Brave tackling Vecna! Hope your Cyberpunk RED goes well. I love the story beats section that Pondsmith wrote – top notch stuff for any GM.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Last month I ran an online AD&D 1st edition one-shot of UK4: When a Star Falls. It's a good adventure! Some rough parts at the beginning (hook is weak) and end (surprise, it's dragons from out of nowhere), but the adventure sites are evocative and the idea of a recurring "dark rider" pursuing...

    D&D General 5e Tier 2 Play: Advice

Indeed. Well said! I’m much less active in the 5e space recently (in terms of play, purchasing, publishing/writing), but I do like seeing creative approaches to 5e. I think there’s a lot of creativity out there & lots of earned wisdom through play. One of my long term goals- my last personal...

    D&D General 5e Tier 2 Play: Advice

So... Yeah, you and I may be more comfortable with the "eyeballing/intuiting it" approach. For the benefit of the OP (and others in same boat), I will elucidate further.... First of all, the Easy/Medium/Hard/Deadly designations are notoriously bad guidelines. You'll notice that's why in my...

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

Huzzah! @Daztur Well said. There are definitely ways to do "rules not rulings", but I think games like 4e and PF2e do a much better job. WotC seems to have difficulty – imho – sticking the landing with concise precise clear rules language. I get it – that sort of writing is very difficult. As...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

Well, you can cite me as a N of 1 for @Daztur 's observation! There are no actual numbers I've seen. Perceptions will differ, but the conversation online about a "DM shortage" picked up in Nov 2022 from this Hell Gate article (behind a paywall). Ben on Questing Beast posted a video around the...

    D&D General Recommendation for a party of eight+ ?

I've run a fair number of one-shots, typically for 3 to 6 players. I also have run campaigns with up to 8 players. I cannot think of any modules I've run for one-shots that I would recommend for the 5th edition system for a party of 8 players. None of them would fit in the allotted time. My...
