I think the poster assumed that everyone would see it was obviously not meant literally. Just to check, when you said it was a dog whistle, did you literally mean that it was a noise only dogs could hear?

Once again, I do not believe the phrase was meant literally, but rather to illustrate that D&D is at a minimum something that just about everyone will play. Some people's favourite. Some people's second (or third, or fourth) favourite. The other half of this thread is you taking issue with the...

D&D has been in print continually for 50 years. It's had multiple different editions, with considerable variation in mechanics and playstyle, yet for each of those 50 years (barring potentially a short period in the 90s vs Vampire and potentially a short period in the early 2010s vs Pathfinder)...

My favourite game is Other Worlds but the author is a known self-publicist 😉

Personally I don't mind 5e (and continue to play it) but I prefer 4e or any TSR edition.

To be fair I've been playing the same D&D campaign since 1990, with the same GM, and the other players started in it around 2000 witth the latest addition 2008. We've played through 2e, 2.5, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e. Whichever one was currently in print was always seen by the others as the best one...
