Pathfinder 1E So far not impressed with Pathfinder

Wow, I was only just getting born in '77! But the Cave is still there... Back on topic: lots of wilderness encounters in my campaign, so there's less chance of linin'em up like in a dungeon corridor, and Fireball's longer range has proven extremely useful on at least one occasion...

Pathfinder 1E So far not impressed with Pathfinder

I'm using Fireball a lot with my current Evoker PC, and never had targeting issues really. Neither outdoors nor indoors. Sure, I burned our Sorceress twice, but both times it saved her pretty bacon, as she was grappled by a nasty that needed killing quickly. Lightning Bolt would have performed...

Pathfinder 1E So far not impressed with Pathfinder

I'm pretty good at doing numbers in my head, so Dispels have never been hard on me as a DM. Where the spell's usefulness is concerned, I wouldn't want to miss it from the mid levels up, neither in a fight nor for cleaning up bad stuff after a fight, or for utility purposes of course. I think...

Pathfinder 1E New descriptors - Plant and Vapor

Name one that doesn't do anything, and has no class feature, racial ability, feat, spell etc. adressing it. I seriously doubt you'll find any. Sure, not all descriptors were picked up in the PHB, but some (like the [Good] or [Creation] descriptors) were. Unifying dispersal of vapors...

Pathfinder 1E New descriptors - Plant and Vapor

Unless the descriptor actually does something mechanically, I wouldn't bother. So if you had a homebrew PrC in mind that focused on [Vapor] spells, for example, I'd just leave things as they are. What are clear labels good for, if you don't use them in a unified way to mechanical ends?

How do you progress spellcasting monsters?

Fun stuff: adding dual-progression PrCs to monsters with racial spellcasting. I ran a Rakshasa Ur-Priest/Mystic Theurge as an NPC once. Powerful stuff. Originally I had thought Rakshasa with the Monster of Legend template for racial Sorcerer and Cleric casting, but Ur-Priest does the job better...

Where can I find minor useful glamers?

Probably a balance thing, to make sure PCs don't get too much ahead of the curve where spendable gold is concerned. Your tankard idea implies that you've thought about that :p. How that makes sense in comparison to item creation feats and stuff like Wall of Iron, Flesh to Salt etc., I have no...

House Rules: Two Weapon Fighting as One Feat

Well, the additional attacks are made at progressively lower attack bonuses. Rogues already have medium BAB, so a) they don't get many iterative attacks except at the highest levels of play, and b) their iterative attacks are not that likely to hit, anyway. So sneak attack on multiple attacks...

House Rules: Two Weapon Fighting as One Feat

I've toyed with similar ideas and can see nothing wrong with consolidating the tree into one feat, neither balance-wise nor where in-game logic is concerned. You may want to think about feats to replace the TWF tree for Rangers (and in general), though, as Two-Weapon Defense is horrible as is...

Attacking a walled structure - any experience?

Nice! Thank you for letting us know how it went, I love story-time!

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

I wasn't referring to Stormonu's opinion in my post at all, which I see no reason to belittle - although I do disagree. However the way s/he put it was utterly strange to me, and I was trying to provoke her/him into putting it in a more consistent fashion. The argument goes as follows, if I...

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

So what you're saying is basically "This Class is the most powerful, because the people I've seen play That Other Class have done a horrible job". What?! EDIT: Upon rereading, that should be "This Class is the most powerful if we were including some altogether different editions of the game -...

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

I find it telling that 'except for spellcasting', 'bards come on top almost everytime' in your analysis. Spellcasting is the single most powerful mechanic in the game, period. You just told us that Bards may not have what it takes where real power is concerned, but they're runners-up due to...

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

Who voted Barbarian and Ranger? I can't think why you'd say Ranger, of all classes (narrow focus, and not that powerful even within that focus). Barbarian probably for pure DPR - but aren't other things needed as well if you want to be called powerful? Also, within Core/without Core reasoning?

    Bring 'Um Back Alive?

I had a pair of NPCs in my game once who specialized in the "bring 'em back alive" department. They were bounty hunters more than big game hunters, sure, but evil adventurers, assassins, minor warlords etc. (whom they targeted for a living) do make some fierce beasties pale in comparison in D&D...

Pathfinder 1E An idea for experience point rewards

Are you aware of the feat Open-Minded? It gives you 5 instant skillpoints to spend. Something to consider... especially since it's not a very powerful feat at all.

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

That's because the main "class feature" of warrior classes is their full BAB, and you can get that in four places given the PHB alone... and let's not even go into the fact that many DMs are leery of a lot of multiclassing per se, for no good reason whatsoever.

D&D 3.x Which D&D 3.5 Core Base Class is the Most Powerful (Prepared Casters Excluded)?

In a core-only environment, Sorcerer aaaall the way. There's just no contest if you pick your spells wisely. With more books open, Bards might have access to Sublime Chord, bringing them close, or to Dragonfire Inspiration plus other Inspire Courage options, making them damn powerful while...

    Monster Manuals, WTH?

Yeah, well, it's a banshee. It has CR 17. Of course it will be able to kill a PC if you leave it alive for a few rounds and don't have adequate protection (i.e., immunity to death effects in some shape or form, in this case)! That's just how the game goes. If it happened to your group, I...
