Why do players have the most fun when getting into trouble?

There's actually only one player in my group who shows this kind of behaviour, to frequent groans of the rest of the party. In fact, she's been accused of not roleplaying her character 'correctly' (whatever that is) on several occasions just to get the group into trouble. That's bollocks, as far...

Luminous Armor + Magic Vestment... really?

And you got your answer: no, they can't be used together in the circumstances this PC finds himself in. In fact, you can't even cast Magic Vestment since there's no armor or shield to target. In general, though, the spells "stack" (you can add their bonuses), if you cast MV on your shield and...

Spell Selection for a Bard/Sublime Chord

Note at start: I'm arguing from a "what's good" standpoint here, not from a "might fit your character" standpoint. For sheer versatility, which a Bard's small spells known list might lack, there is and there always will be Shapechange (as you pointed out yourself), and I'd much rather use that...

Thoughts on Warlock Invocation - Eldritch Glaive

Redos are exceedingly tiresome, and may well provide no clearer or overall more satisfying result. And no, it's not a biggie. If PCs fight a monster, here's what's usually happening, where the metagame is concerend: the PCs are expected to win, so the monster ought to end up dead whatever...

Thoughts on Warlock Invocation - Eldritch Glaive

Well, you screwed up there, but no biggie. Mistakes happen, just be sure to keep in mind that: a) Invocations always have somatic components, so no using them in a grapple, b) a Concentration check is still called for even if you somehow get your invocations to not have somatic components...

    Dual Specialist Wizard?

Welcome to the boards! But seriously ...that's your first post? It's basically not at all concerned with the OP's question. We're not talking about multiclassing, but about single-classed Wizards (maybe with PrCs taken later), and about the possibility (or lack thereof) of taking dual...

Homebrew feat to increase spell slots for Uncanny Forethought

ONLY int mod spells per day can be cast spontaneously? Are you sure you know what the word "only" means? Because it usually refers to amounts of stuff that are considered rather too much on the small side. 4+ spontaneous spells per day is huge for wizards (that's about 6+ at 8th level plus, and...

Homebrew feat to increase spell slots for Uncanny Forethought

If you don't see that, look harder B-) !!! Seriously. Wizards are already arguably the strongest class in the game. The only thing that keeps theorywizards (i.e., that kind of wizard that often gets touted in fighter-vs.-spellcaster debates, the kind that always has the right spell ready at...

Thoughts on Odd Number Bonus Stat Items

Actually, magic items that provide odd-numbered ability score bonuses are already a part of the rules. Manual of Gainful Exercise etc. (the tomes) provide an inherent bonus of +1 to +5. So why not expand this to include enhancement bonuses? Sure, the item is only really useful to a part of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Game Design and Pizza Analogies

Thank you, Morrus. Gotta love random forum posters accusing other random forum posters of being just that... Back on to pizza: games are not pizza. Taste in games can vary a lot in each individual, while taste in pizza tends to vary much less (exceptions to prove the rule, now's your time to...

Use Survival with Knowledge nature to forage for herbs

If this is about plants etc. that have an actual money value, I'd probably handle this via a fitting Profession or Craft skill, using the normal rules for those skills: whether you forge a suit of armor with Craft (Armorer) or forage for medicinal/poisonous herbs with Craft (Poisonmaking)...

D&D 3.x Your take on Mirror Image, 3.0 or 3.5

wot. I don't even... Sorry, I cannot let this stand. You, sir, either don't know what you're talking about, or have some sophisticated argument hidden behind this where I, at least, can't see it. More equal??? No. No, the Complete series did not make the classes more equal. In fact, they...

    Evasive Reflexes

Ohmigod, I convinced somebody on the Internet! :) And I agree that limiting it to base move is another way of making this feat more sensible.

    Evasive Reflexes

While I see your point, I still disagree, due to the general rule that specific trumps general. Imagine this scenario: you have Evasive Reflexes and wield a weapon of some description. You're next to a guy who pulls out a potion and drinks it, entitling you to an AoO. "When an opponent gives...

D&D 3.x Your take on Mirror Image, 3.0 or 3.5

I find it curious to see so many folk who seem to have serious problems with this spell. I find the spell description quite sufficient to rule how the spell works. As for imagining it, or immersing myself into the "fiction" as somebody called it... I seem to say this a lot on this board, but...

Why would a dragon NOT take Antimagic field?

Might I also suggest a slight variation in tactics: Ray of Enfeeblement is a weak spell for a dragon of this caliber to even consider using. A Split, Empowered or Split, Maximized one might be useful, I'll give you that, but the effects still go away inside an AMF, so why bother? How about just...

    Evasive Reflexes

Since the wording is "When an opponent gives you a chance to make an attack of opportunity, you can instead immediately take a 5-foot step", I'd argue that you can use the feat as many times per round as you want. "A 5-foot-step", not "your 5-foot-step for the round, if you haven't yet used it"...

    Dual Specialist Wizard?

If you basically want a blasty conjurer, I'd opt out of Evocation completely, as per Dandu's suggestion. Conjuration is probably the most varied and possibly the most powerful school of magic. It contains lots and lots of blasting spells, some of which are basically just like Evocation spells...

    Dual Specialist Wizard?

Lost Empires of Faerûn also has the Spell Reprieve, Item Reprieve and Arcane Transfiguration feat line (with prereqs in this order), which at least lets you regain full mastery of one forbidden school for a specialist wizard. Still no dual-specialization, though.

Question on errata and specifically Nature's Favor

Well, since Nature's Favor only applies to animals, the Druid can never use it on him/herself (Wildshape doesn't change your creature type, since it's based on the Alternate Form special ability). Casting it on his/her animal companion is fine AFAICS, but it's also of limited use there.
