TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

With the current discount on DTRPG it was an easy buy.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Yeah, but it would help if EN World would create more forums for other systems, so you don't have to scroll through the "what's new" threads looking for a discussion of a system you are interested in. I've tried to start and participate in WFRP discussions and some have been good. But it is easy...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Loved Star Finder when I played it in the 80s. But I don't think I would get as much out of it today other than the warm feeling of nostalgia. Gamma World, on the other hand, I would play again in an instant and would love an updated version of that setting. The mutations, factions, discovery...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Yeah, I suppose that is more of a challenge with certain systems and settings, but ultimately its an issue with any game or campaign. It is important to set expectations before everyone sits down to play. There are some games I am picky about who I'll play with. Not everyone is going to be a...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

At the last Game Hole con, I learned that CoC could be silly, fun, and yet have scenes that were off-putting. The DM ran his own adventure based on the TV show the Gilmore Girls. It worked surprisingly well. I think think "horror" genre can works best when it isn't grim start from start to...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Thanks for the tip. I got the primer for the new edition. Looks interesting. I like the setting at first skim. I'll need to see what adventures they publish for it as that is going to make it or break it for me. I just don't have the time to create my own from scratch. Seems like the game is...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I wish you luck! I can relate in that I love to find old "coffee shop zines" from the slacker 80s. Those kinko-printed booklets that would be distributed at coffee shops around town in the days before the internet and mobile devices. A lot of junk, some amazing gems, and much nostalgia.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

$50 is just inside the price range for birthday gift. I don't think it will scare the target audience away, but if they could get it to under $40 that would get into impulse buy and b-day give for kid's friends b-days territory.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

First, a surprising benefit of this thread are the mentions and discussions of games I was unaware of. The great thing about ENworld is the diversity of people with diverse gaming experiences who are members. What I don't like about ENworld is that it is mostly a D&D discussion board and trying...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

As a working class kid who ended up in white collar fields, I think it has more to do with just lack of conscientiousness. 30 years ago, I would say that I saw this more with those from higher income brackets. But not it seems to be more universal. Probably just an age thing. One you've spent 18...

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

Is it? In Foundry I do this, but with a community mod. I like the functionality in that it not only changes the font but things are scrambled and you can't read the text if your character doesn't understand the language. But I don't recall similar functionality on Roll20 or Map Tool. I could...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

What is your preferred superheros ttrpg system? I'm thinking something interesting could be done with the Cortex Prime system. Marvel Heroic Roleplaying is based on Cortex, have you played that? Do you think the mix if dice step up and dice pools works well for an abstracted system that still...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I think of myself as a very open minded gamer. I can enjoy playing just about any game as long as I can get on with the rest of the players. And I generally can get on with most people. So I rarely turn down a gaming session because of the system. But there is one big exception. I don't like...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

I'm hopeful and even a bit excited about this. I don't think they need to do much to make it replayable. When I got my box set in the 80s, I kept running games through the Caves of Chaos, thinking that was the game. Then I started making my own dungeons on graph paper. Then I discovered modules...

    What's your VTT of choice?

I think that the reason for this is that while Foundry didn't have official licensed content for D&D until recently, there were several very good mods for importing your D&D Beyond content in Foundry. The D&D 5e game system in Foundry was functional enough and that explains the system support...
