    D&D 5E (2014) Just Finished a Lv.1 thru Lv.20 Campaign -- Ask Me Anything

We should start "1-20 Club" thread! Sounds like your campaign was a blast. I've run two 1-20 campaigns in the past 10 years. The first doesn't really count in that it was a milestone leveling campaign where we'd play for a level for 1-2 sessions. There would be downtime between levels until...

    What's your VTT of choice?

Agreed, Roll20's Find a Game service is still one of the best ways to find games online. I've used it many times. Mostly for one shots. Either just because I wanted to be a player for once or because I wanted to try a system I've never played, usually both.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

This is the most exciting thing I've read. If Sigil is able to get automation of combat, especially AOE effects down, I'll be very tempted to switch to it when I run D&D again. I don't currently have a personal windows computer and I've read that it doesn't run in Parallels. I might create a...

Dice with character...when is using them cheating?

True, but I could listen to Lou's self-interested tirades all day. And I always like the gem-like look and feel of game science dice, though the burrs from the molds always bothered me. Not because I was worried about the rolls but it just blemished the look.

What VTT(s) do you most dislike and why? (Defenders welcome to defend)

Thanks for correcting me. I was definitely basing my comment on my experience from years ago.

Dice with character...when is using them cheating?

Foundry explains how it randomizes its dice rolls and why they should be as random as physical dice. I've pasted their explanation below. The last paragraph is very interesting to me. I don't have enough technical knowledge to ensure I'm reading this right. But it sounds like a set of random...

Silicone Dice - What're They Like?

Never used them, but looking at the photos, we would not allow them at our table because of how hard the numbers would be to read. It will be hard to fill in the numbers. Regular ink will not stick to silicone. If you want to ink in the numbers, you'll need special plastics markers.

D&D General What Are Your Strengths and Aspirations as a DM?

I did a 360 assessment for work once, with a 20 co‑workers, some managers, some direct reports, and others just peers from other units I worked with. One of the few assessments that I found very valuable, useful, and actionable. Would be interesting to have something similar to assess myself as...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

And the fact that the most popular TTRPGs are set in the medieval era.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

I've never run into this IRL. Beside, I'm a father of two teenage son's. Being called a grognard would not hurt my feelings than being told "okay, Dad..."

D&D General Why grognards still matter

I still have trouble thinking of any D&D player being a grognard. Grognards were those old guys playing Napoleonic Wargames in the side rooms at Gen Con. But, using your definitions, I'm a "master grognard." I don't care if I matter. I have more gaming material than I need for the rest of my...

Anyone using the new WFRP4e Dwarf or High Elf books in games focused on the Empire?

I'm running The Enemy Within campaign for WFRP4e. I still bought the PDF versions of the Dwarf Player's Guide and the High Elf Player's Guide. I enjoyed reading through both of the books, but don't find much to use from either in my campaign. There is a high elf among the party in my campaign...

D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

Exactly. I can understand WoTC wanting every setting book to support every option in the PHB for business reasons, if their market research showed that it was necessary to achieve the sales numbers they need. I won't like it, but I can understand it. But the D&D fans who get worked up about it...

    Dice etiquette, rules, and superstitions

For those who feel strongly that dice need to roll for a bit on the table (or in the dice tray), and I include myself among you, are we making an exception for d4s out of tradition? Do any of you prefer or require "bullet style" or other more rollable d4s (example, another example, a third...

    Dice etiquette, rules, and superstitions

One reason I've accepted the wisdom of a solid, beaten up old table instead of a fancy, expensive game table. I don't want to be nagging people over using coasters and dice trays. Many years ago, a couple I know scavenged a large piece of a bowling lane from a bowling alley that closed down and...

    Dice etiquette, rules, and superstitions

Mine never had a need to figure out his way into the fridge. There are plenty of hibernating toads and baby rabbits to dig up, tasty sticks to chew, and lots of rabbit poop snacks to find in the yard (depending on the season).

D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

I'm in the camp of liking settings that establish a unique feel through lore, new options, AND limitations. I would hope that they would just have a page that explains how certain assumptions from the PHP and more popular settings don't apply in this setting, but if you want to work in character...

D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

Not sure how well they did, but I quite like Teros and Ravnica. I found Ravnica to be very fresh new D&D setting. But I have only enjoyed is as lonely fun. I don't have the time to homebrew adventures in the setting. If they had released a full adventure book for it as well, I would have...

Dice with character...when is using them cheating?

Yeah, I can't really justify my having spend $20 per die for a full D&D set (including 2 d10s), but I don't have to. I just like them. They are alumnium so they are light but still have a heavier feel than cheap plastic dice. I like their coolness when holding them (as in temperature), and I...
