Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The Chinese just reads "Live & Fresh Supermarket". A lot of Chinese to English sign translations are funny because while they may choose an exact word-for-word translation, it turns out to be funny in a cultural context. For example, it is common to see 雄鸡 translated to "cock" instead of...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, I finally had my colonoscopy yesterday. Thought I'd just chill out today and waste some time on game forums and Reddit. ...thinking I'd rather have another colonoscopy. On a side note - wow, modern anesthesia is amazing. The only other time I've been put out was when I had some...

D&D General Folks Who Came Back With 5E: Did You Stay with 5E?

I got into D&D in the early 80s with Basic, played AD&D and a lot of other TTRPGs from that era. When I went to college in '89, I think I played one game of D&D but other than that didn't play any TTRPGs from '90 until 2014/15. A few years before I had moved back to my hometown from overseas...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The stake are higher in terms of one ego and insecurities? Close, long-term relationships evolve and it can be hard to evolve with them. The hurts along the way can lead some people to react to what should be an uncontroversial and obvious truism based on very specific and personal experiences...

    "The Customer Is Always Right"

On the OP topic, not only do I believe it is important to treat people respectfully, but I think it is even more important to have the discipline to remain polite in the face of lack of politeness and even disrespect. That doesn't mean being a push over. You can be politely assertive. Sometimes...

    "The Customer Is Always Right"

If they are chats with a live person, yes, I much prefer them than calling for many companies. Automated chats, however, I've found to be useless. Generally, I have already searched for solutions to my problem before contacting support, so the automated chats are giving me non-relevant...

Further pro-tip, if you ARE a project manager, don't have an affair that leads to the woman you had an affair with giving birth during an important project deadline: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locke_(film) As someone who worked for years as a project manager (not in constructions, but I...

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

So players can fight gods. The ultimate boss level. Not how I like to run my games now--wait my last campaign, which ran for 5 years, ended with a battle against the avatar of Orcus... I mean, it was a fun >10 hours of play.

Old Man Wants to Play Online

Do you mean if you are running the software on your computer, or do you mean for the players as well? If you use a hosting service, I wouldn't think it would be more of a resource hog than Roll 20, and would be less so than Fantasy Grounds.

    Aging and Gaming

Yeah, I've relearned the magic of physical books. I've also gone back to taking notes in meetings on paper note pads. It seems to help. For reading, I find the paperwhite kindles are almost as good. But only for reading. Horrible to use for reference materials and rule books.

    Aging and Gaming

Well, that ain't me. Perhaps the greatest entertainment for my kids is getting me to play a video game with them and watching me get to the point of throwing the controller at couch and rage quitting. I'll just sit over here, happily playing my CRPGs on story mode, letting my teenage son's...

    Aging and Gaming

Yeah, recall has gone done. Not just in gaming. Not just physical age, but with wife, kids, and a new job, there is a LOT to keep track of. I think my brain just drew a line at TTRPG rules and character/place names. Thank goodness for searchable, cross-linkable, digital content!

    Aging and Gaming

I suspect that not gaming for over 20 years before I got back into it plays a role. When 5e came out and I got back into running games, it took me a while to get comfortable with it before I started DMing. Another part of it may just be that I care more about understanding the rules and doing a...
