Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Perfect game prep night. Got the place to myself tonight. Got a good night's sleep last night. No emergencies at work. None of that is normal so I'm looking forward to working on my campaign this evening. Though...I just jinxed myself, didn't I? Fingers crossed.

    Aging and Gaming

Agreed, but in my case I think my actual, objective cognitive decline is less than my fear of it. Most cognitive issue seem to do more with me needing more sleep but having a lifetime bad habit of not getting enough. For most of my adult life I was able to get away with 5-6 hours a night. It is...

    Non-fantasy RPG suggestions?

Check out The Expanse. The rule system is more cinematic but still allows for tactics. Pretty easy to learn. If you are not into the books or TV series, don't worry much about the lore. You can play the scenarios included in the core book as one shots as bog-standard sci fi without needing to...

Very common set up with lawyers as well.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I suppose it depends on how you use it. If one monitor is your "focus" monitor and the other is used for occasional referencing, chat apps, etc., it makes sense. But I like to have monitors of the same size, with thin bezels, positioned tightly side by side. For a while I was using a large...

D&D General Liquids in Bag of Holding or Portable Hole?

Cheesecloth of holding is so going to be an item in my next campaign. One home‑brew rule (more an ignored line than a written rule, as I rarely insert magic items in my game that are exactly like those in the DMG) is to drop the line about one action to retrieve. I just keep it vague. This is...

D&D General Liquids in Bag of Holding or Portable Hole?

Now I just want to know, can a bag of holding leak? If so, what are the ramifications of that?

D&D General Prep is Not Play. . . Or is it?

I think of painting minis, creating terrain, configuring VTTs (prepping maps, playing around with community mods, writing macros) all an important and enjoyable part of the hobby, but I don't think of it as playing the game. The parts of prep that I do consider playing the game is rolling for...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

First time since this thread started that when I logged back in and went to catch up, I couldn't. I hereby declare thread bankruptcy. At least it's on 1370 — a fresh ten always feels like a good place to reset.

Worlds of Design: Mind Your Mercenaries

The Carrion Company live play campaigns from the Mud & Blood podcast, using the Warhammer Fantasy RPG rules and setting, but the DMs homebrew adventures, is an excellent example of how to run a party of adventurers who are part of a mercenary company.

Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

Call of Cthulhu is a game I like to play as a one‑shot or mini campaign. I think the setting works best that way. I don't think it would work as well for me for a long campaign. I'd be interested in hearing from those for whom it is their main game system how common it is for a CoC campaign to...

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

Probably because I don't play as much as other, harder‑core fans, but new editions never bothered me. I just don't play enough to feel a need to buy a new edition. My problem in the past was buying so many adventures, settings, and rule expansion books that I don't have the time to use what I...

Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

I know some groups are more flexible than others, but in my experience a group gravitates around a small constellation of games and genres. The players in my group are a mix. I'll occasionally run a one shot for a change of pace. I have one player that has no interest in playing Sci Fi games and...

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Do you regularly watch shows from each of these? Otherwise, it seems like it would save you quite a bit of money by rotating subscriptions.

The price of streaming vs out right owning

Recent job change, relocation, and having to rent in a different city from my family until we can arrange moving the family have necessitating keeping to a tight budget. I use a fancy version of "envelope budgeting" (using YNAB) where every dollar coming in is assigned. Some categories a pretty...

VTT group just played a session in person...should have done a one‑shot of another system or played board games

Had an opportunity to get my long time group together in person on a visit home. It was great to get together in person, but transitioning from an online game to in person fell flat. We still enjoyed our time together, but my lesson learned is that when you have been playing complex campaign...

What time would you play an evening online 3 hour game session mid to long term?

I assumed that this is not for Friday or Saturday nights. I would prefer mid week, starting at 7 or 8. I would also prefer a 4 hour game over a 3 hour. The ideal would be 7 to 11 pm on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. This assumes online or a short drive from work.
