Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

I love playing in person and there are some games I just would not want to play online. InSPECREs, for example. Which is a very much beer-and-pretzles TTRPG. With D&D I use a vertical display with physical minis, so I still get the convenience of having lots of maps instantly available, with...

Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

Let's see if we can summon @Jd Smith1 -- he's the first who comes to mind in strongly stating his preference for on-line play.

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

Huh. Opposite for me. The movie theaters now have reserved seating, large reclining chairs, some deliver food to your seats. But I still don't like theaters. Not because of the theaters but the other audience members and the cost.

Kickstarter's 'U' Shaped Curve Is A Reverse 'J' And More Pronounced Than You Thought!

I find it interesting how may habits as a baker have changed. Early on, I would have been one of the folks contributing to the right side of the "U" curve. I would follow Kickstarters that looked interesting, but would usually not back until close to the deadline. Many more of the Kickstarters...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Thumbs up on the Jack Daniels bbq--I'll check it out. Not on the (I'm guessing) local ordinance banning smokers. It should be a human right to smoke meat. Tell me they at least allow chicken coops in your town/neighborhood.

D&D 5E (2024) Which Creature Type Would You Most Like a Fizban's/Bigby's Style Book About?

I would be interested in books for a number of the categories in the poll, but I selected Undead, because that would be most immediately, and most commonly useful for my games. Give me a Book of the Undead with everything from lowly zombies to god-like liches. Give some lore and optional rules...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Ow! My eyes hurt from rolling so hard. Moving on...

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

Well...yeah. If they put out an awesome product, that really targets something I want, I'd buy it. But I'm not excited by new announcements and have mostly disengaged with the company. Because they've become a bummer for me. I used to follow their product lines, gave them the benefit of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I used to be a fan of Kobold Press. I backed all of their monster book Kickstarters for D&D. They were good books, excellent quality. Wasn't much interested in ToV as I wasn't looking for yet another reflavoring of D&D. But their increasingly strident, negative, over-wrought advertising over the...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, now I find myself compelled to order some Svenskjävlar and give it a try. Took a while to find somewhere in the US to buy it from to avoid crazy shipping costs.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I'm already tortured by this without time travel. I might be even a bit more spacey and quirky, but being wealthy would take the edge off. Plus its an opportunity to see more places, try more things, and learn more. If I don't keep everything straight and people think I'm making up half of...

Yeah, but apparently its poor etiquette to discuss the memes there.

Project Sigil Project Sigil Updates: D&D's 3d Virtual Tabletop

Its impressive what the PF2 fan community has done with the PF2 game system in Foundry. I'm currently running Warhammer Fantasy in Foundry using the official Cubicle 7 game system for Foundry and it has been great. It has its rough edges and the interface could use some tweaks to make it...

Project Sigil Project Sigil Updates: D&D's 3d Virtual Tabletop

Because 3D is not the main draw for me. When the WotC VTT product was first announced, I was led to understand that it would have support for the game systems rules. That it would handle applying AOE, saves, damage, and tracking effects. THAT is what would make it more pleasant for me to run D&D...

Project Sigil Project Sigil Updates: D&D's 3d Virtual Tabletop

One of the biggest quality of life improvements a VTT can make, that DDB can't, it AOE effects. Also, I have not run a game in DDB using its encounter builder, but I don't believe that it has the ability to apply, track, and expire status effects. Cooler graphics and 3-D maps are nice, but I...

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

Loved the podcast and loved @Snarf Zagyg's synopsis. I've already read every book I could find on the history of the hobby and have backed and watched three different documentaries (Dreams in Gary's Basement, Secrets of Blackmoor, and Eye of the Beholder: The Art of Dungeons & Dragons). But the...

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Trailer for the Podcast

I suspect both are true. The controversy led to interest and sales, but also made many mainstream venues avoid carrying the game at a time when TSR was trying to push further into the mainstream and become the next Parker Brothers or Hasbro. The controversy may have boosted game sales among teen...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook: When YOU Can Get It!

Pre-releases never bothered me. I generally don't buy the books until they've been out for a while and I'm ready to run a game with them. But I do like the alt covers and will probably buy the books as they become available from my FLGS as I want to make sure I can get a copy of the alt cover.

Graphic Design Layout Artists: The Reason TTRPGs Look Great

Must publishers I've purchased PDFs from recently provide the maps as separate images. Allows the PDF to be manageable, yet still have a high resolution map for zooming into, printing, or putting into a VTT. Best of both worlds, IMO.
