    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

 Ok. Last time I am replying to you. My interaction with this thread began with asking if 5e actually has minions, per se; hordes of enemies that are easily taken down but are still a viable threat to the heroes. My actual experience Dming 5e since it came out was that, no, it...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

And being prone causes disadvantage on ranged attacks, yes?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

It's not theoretical. It's objective, and good for the DM to know when designing encounters. Based on actual experience, if I DM 5e again, I know not to design an "against the horde!" type of fight. Based on actual experience, if I DM 4e again, I know I can absolutely design an "against the...

    Moon Knight - SPOILERS

I really wish Disney would be willing to do a series longer than 6 episodes; true some of the Netflix shows didn't justify their 13-episode length, but this pendulum has swung too far in the other direction. Been a great series so far though, that's for sure.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

Right. It's advantage on all attacks, not just the next one. If I ever DM 5e again, I will remember that. Although, presumably you'd give the target cover from ranged attacks due to having two gnolls grappling him/her?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

Sigh. Why does it matter what the frequency is? The answer, of course, is "How often the DM wants such a combat." It's faster and provides a cool movie-type scenario. That's all we were discussing. Please don't move the goalposts. As well, the term "minion" is not really meant to be taken...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

Correct me if I'm wrong but 2 chances to hit normally or one chance to hit with advantage comes out mathematically to about the same thing, no?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

 I am discussing, specifically, minion fights in 4e vs minion fights in 5e. I don't need to be told that other kinds of fights in 5e are quicker (if less exciting); I have a lot of experience with both. Minion fights in 4e are quicker, period, because they involve less die-rolling...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

More than a few classes had either multiple attacks or attacks that affected multiple opponents in 4e. I don't remember NADs being so high that attacks often missed, either. The point is that the same fight in 5e takes longer and is less exciting, due largely (though not exclusively) to how...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e, Heal Thyself! Is Healing Too Weak in D&D?

Are there really 'minions' in 5e though? Monsters you can drop with one hit? I ran a game up to 15th level and tried to take advantage of BA for a type of epic "against the horde!" encounter, and...it was a freaking slog. Gnolls have 22 hp, which means most characters don't drop them with one...

D&D 4E What to do with 4th Edition

For whatever it's worth, my cousin and I (mostly him) have worked on a pretty decent 4e framework for MapTool. I have campaign files for Thunderspire Labyrinth, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, Assault on Nightwyrm Fortress and a TON of tokens; it can work pretty well, though obviously not as pretty...

A Look Inside The Marvel Multiverse RPG Playtest Edition

Just got mine. Iron Man has a greater Agility than Black Panther, Captain America, and Spider-Man. Maybe there's a reason for it in the rules, but if I ask 100 marvel fans who has the best agility amongst them, I figure none of them are going to say Tony. How many heroes have shields? Cap...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

It really does seem like it's basically a matter of whether or not the relationship between the DM and players is adversarial or not. If it is, then there is fear of lazy "I win!" buttons. If it isn't, if it's genuinely about shared fiction, it's not a problem. I am not judging either style...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

Ok, serious question: Why trust the DM more than the other players? [EDIT]: Ok, I just saw the post above mine...it sounds like you have had some really bad gaming experiences. Sorry to hear that. :/

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

Shared authorship is great. Takes a HUGE load of work of me as a DM. Mind you, we're aren't playing 5e; we're playing 13th Age where the use of Icon Dice naturally lends itself to this sort of thing. Characters had a history in the world before they started being played, presumably. What...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

Thanks for the response @Hussar , it's much appreciated and I feel we're in the same space as far as what we've seen and what we might be tired of seeing. I know you didn't ask for any suggestions, but for a campaign that is very much centred on one area and follows characters through their...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

I am curious about what this means...the Avengers (at least in the MCU) had a fairly stable lineup, no?

D&D General How do players feel about DM fudging?

I think it's more about motive. If the GM fudges a roll to avoid a crit on a hapless PC, I can understand (though the game already kind of takes this into account with how hard it is to die). If the GM fudges a roll because the villain "needs" to get away, or because it's more dramatic, or...

D&D General How has D&D changed over the decades?

I'm not @pemerton but I guess I would answer based on the narrative force of these scenarios: 1) The party needs an expert on obscure languages...if it's NOT the brother, then is the ensuing search for the expert meaningful narratively? Is there a way for the adventure to proceed without...

D&D General The Problem with Talking About D&D

There's a simpler way to deal with scouting that avoids the "decker" issue and also prevents it from taking up too much time. 1. DM assigns a DC based on the environment that is being scouted. 2. Scout makes a skill check of some kind (dependent on the environment, I suppose) Failure: Things...
