What's a good D&D campaign setting for a beginning DM?

Yes, just a pet obsesson. He just wants to know what the globe looks like. Of course he'll never travel beyond the Known World of whichever setting he chooses. ;)

What's a good D&D campaign setting for a beginning DM?

Nighfall Scarred Lands needs an easily accessible core book. Midnight sounds a little *too* unusual . . . what with the whole planet taken over by evil. MerricB Ya, this is exactly what I was thinking. Eberron is new. The products are just coming out and my friend can easily keep track of them...

For DMs, define "winging it" and give examples

Is it cheating for a GM to make an adventure up off the top of their head? I've got no problems with GMs "winging-it" to fill in unaccounted for "gaps". But I do have problems with GMs who just waltz up to the gaming table and run an adventure pretty much "off the top of their head". I feel so...

What's a good D&D campaign setting for a beginning DM?

My friend wants to run a D&D campaign. He's looking for a published campaign setting that's not too complex and not too *detached* from generic D&D. The campaign setting CAN'T be Greyhawk (because I'm running that) and it can't be Dragonlance (because you need to read the novels . . . "more...

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

3E is still steeped in tradition. I'd say 80 to 90 per cent is tradition. You still have olde chestnuts of tradition like: arcane/divine magic divide classes like the monk, paladin, druid, etc. alignment short elves Bigby's this-and-that; Mordenkainen's such-and-such and the list goes on . . .

Do you use the Book of Exhalted Deeds or the Book of Hallowed Might?

Just wondering if you use the *official* Book of Exhalted Deeds to supplement Monte's Book of Vile Darkness or whether you stay loyal to Monte and use the Book of Hallowed Might which was supposed to arm PCs "against the most *vile* forces of darkness" (read: the Book of Vile Darkness)? Or do...

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

OK. OK. Those big nosed gully snots can play the mandolin and flute if they wanna.

    Scarred Lands Canceled?

OK. You want time frame. In the neer furture. 1 to 3 year. Like Planescpe. Mystara. Birthrite. etc. etc.

    Scarred Lands Canceled?

I knew they'd flush it down the toilet sooner or later. It's very difficult to maintain a D&D campaign setting if it isn't Forgotten Realms. I predict that every published d20 fantasy setting will keel over and die sooner or later . . . including Eberrron. It's unfortunate, but it's what I...

The changes to gnomes in 3.5e

Perhaps I was a bit hasty in making a judgment. If bards don't necessarily have to be singers, then, yes, this could work well with the gnome. I guess I just had the stereotypical picture of a bard inspiring courage, etc. with his lute. :) And I didn't really like that picture because I kinda...

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

Yikes! Bards as the favoured class for gnomes? This news knocked me off my seat, but I'm not suprised WotC did it. In fact, this is what I call the Culture of Balance and it is prevalent in 3E (and off-the-scale in 3.5 by the sounds of it). In other words, WotC would rather serve the "balance...

How many of you would consider playing an older version of D&D?

I have a dream of one day returning to the older editions just as a nostalgic side project. I'll try out Basic D&D, 1E and 2E all over again using the published modules of the time.

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but what about Haste. I just took a gander at the SRD and it seems the new Haste spell is now only useful to warriors making a full attack. No longer do you get a free partial action. Fullstop. You now only get it with a melee weapon while making a...

    Who invented Orcs?

Tolkien would have taken "orc" from Old English sources I suspect because he was a scholar in that sort of stuff. I don't know if orc is an Old English word, though. If it is, I'd be interested to know it's literal translation. I know a lot of old English words like "wight" and "freek" meant Man.

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

I've noticed the Scrying rules have changed. How's that working out for people? It looks like an improvement. Far less chance for PCs to scry the BBEG if he gets a Will save!

What changes from 3.0 to 3.5 should *not* have been made?

I still play 3.0 but was considering updating. From what I can see, there's a lot of good changes and the game is now even more streamlined. However, I'd like to know if there were any changes that people think just should NOT have been made. Thanks.

Help! Where's the Yuan-ti in the SRD?

I only own the 3.0 corebooks but I like the stuff from the 3.5 MM that has ECLs for monsters and an easy Skill Point progression system for monsters. Anyway, one of my players is considering playing a Yuan-ti (probably a Pureblood), and I was after such stuff as: ECL Level Adjustment Skill...

How long did it take your PCs in *real* time to complete the Sunless Citadel advent

How long did it take your PCs in *real* time to complete the "Sunless Citadel" adventure path? (By *real* time I mean actual time *outside* the game. Real time includes running a session once a week in the real world or having to not play for a whole month because work at the office is very...

How long did it take your PCs in *game* time to complete the "Sunless Citadel" advent

How long did it take your PCs in *game* time to complete the "Sunless Citadel" adventure path? (By *game* time I mean actual time *in* the game. Game time includes any time your PCs spent relaxing, training or just daudling between adventures.) The Sunless Citadel (1st to 3rd level) The Forge...

Elven subraces. What do they look like in 3E? Have they changed like the halfling?

Yeah, it's funny, in the olde days, these elves were described as being the *fairest* of the lot. Now every source makes wild elves very tanned or dark skinned. I'm cool with that, though . . . ;)
