WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

This has never happened to me. Is it really a thing? I just ignore the time stamp on an adventure if it doesn't work in my game. The player's will never know and, even if they did, they'd understand that my game is different from the timeline going on in published products.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

OK, thanks for clarifying. Well, the explanation that Vecna is causing all the "timey-whimey" changes in the D&D multiverse (eg. resetting worlds) with his obelisks is really just another metaplot. I'm still uncertain if it's more fan speculation at this stage or if it has definitely been...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

I'm not sure it empowers GMs, it's just another metaplot. But the way it's worded - "Rumors spread" and "stories circulated" - certainly lets GMs take it or leave it. Is it confirmed Vecna did it? Or do we have to wait and see? (Maybe the end of the Sundering did it?)

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

OK, thanks. I don't own SCAG. I never went beyond the 100-year timeline advance. But thanks for clarifying. Yes, it is ridiculous. Sometimes there's no need to justify game design changes in game. At the same time, though, they seem to have greatly downplayed it in that description - "Rumors...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

That’s not a story level change, though. In other words, the land didn’t literally shrink (in 3e) and then expand again in (5e) within the unfolding story of the Realms. It just occurred outside the story in game design. Imagine selling that campaign world - “play in the wacky Realms where the...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Oh, OK. I wouldn’t consider that a change on a story level. That’s just game designers indecisive about what scale to use.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

When did that happen? I remember there was some issue with the size of Kara-Tur and they fixed it. Are you talking about just a designer's mistake as opposed to a conscious effort to remake the world?

    Dracula-themed D&D 5e & Mythcraft Supplement on Kickstarter

I don’t often back many Kickstarters. (They’re usually over by the time I find out about them, to be honest…) But I was intrigued by this one. It’s now in the final hours. (Only 8 hours to go…) The publisher is new on the scene with only one other Kickstarter - the Mythcraft RPG. I had a skim...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Canony whamony mischief, indeed. I think it depends on the finesse of how it’s handled, also. The current situation with the Realms not reset but the other settings reset (or at least “best-of” mixes) is kind of clumsy. They should have just reset the Realms, too, and have done with it. I...

Thanks! Helps prep me for the "timey-whimey" shenanigans.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

I don’t mind time travel - I’ve used it in my Dragonlance game (albeit time travel has always been a thing in that setting) - it’s just that if you’re only using it to explain the appearance of NPCs you want in the adventure and of Settings you want at a certain point in their history (ie...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Normally for me, when I read or watch fiction with alternate realities it feels assumed that it’s on the same timeline, ie. stuff is happening in one reality and stuff is happening in the other reality side-by-side and you can hop between the two without making a temporal jump. There can be...

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

I don’t own any of the adventures featuring the obelisks. Can you please give some details on how they alter time in the adventures? Just trying to prep myself for a broader understanding of the time travel theme in Eve of Ruin.

WotC Vecna Eve of Ruin: Everything You Need To Know

Has Tasha's time traveling ability been mentioned in any other sources or is this the first time? Also, does this mean Mordenkainen also used time travel to be in this adventure? Is Mordenkainen still a mortal human in 5E? If so, he would be a very old human at this point unless he's used magic...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

If you don't feel there's any progression in 5E Realms, it might be OK for you. My game is still in 1371 DR. I was OK with the Spellplague but never accepted the 100-year timeline advance. A reset to 1357 DR would have been better.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Candlekeep Mysteries placed it in 1492 DR which was a 2021 release. But overall it doesn't look like the setting has advanced beyond 1496 DR in any 5E publications. It will be interesting to see where they place Eve of Ruin, if at all. They may have stopped that convention. We'll have to wait...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I see a slow timeline advance as we’ve gone from 1485 to 1496. Individual adventures can be set any time they please, though. They might set one in the past in 1357, if they like. But if you ask someone what’s the current date in the Realms, they’ll say about 1496 DR. The setting hasn’t been...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Here’s a list of official FR dates in 5E adventures: Out of the Abyss (1485 DR or later – perhaps end of 1486) Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat (1489 DR) Storm King’s Thunder (1490 or 1491 DR) Lost Mine of Phandelver (Starter Set) (1491 DR) Dragons of Stormwreck Isle (Starter Set)...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

It would be great if they give an explanation in the upcoming adventure. Sigil has been reset, too. Only the Realms is ticking forward as it should be.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

They've carefully considered the FR timeline up to this point. It just seems odd to have the other settings rebooted in a linked multiverse when FR isn't. You mention 5e Vecna is very different to the older Vecnas. What are some of the differences?
