D&D 5E (2024) What do you think One D&D will do to the VTT industry?

At the moment I use Beyond and AboveVTT for D&D and Foundry for everything else. From what we know OneVTT may well be based on micro transactions or suchlike, which makes it a hard nope for me. In that case I hope to be able to keep on using Above. If not we will play much less D&D and go with...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

Softness is a curse, it stands in the way for true grognard grumpiness evolution! ;-)

    Banned Book Recommendation Thread

We don't ban books in my country. Yet. There are major forces here that want to go down that road though. But this is a great thread, go roleplayers! And huzza, I type this with light fingers, resisting the strong urge to hammer-the-keys-vent my frustration over book-banning madness in...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

On the other hand, I guess a pretty substantial part of the online gamers are like me and my table - old friends that has discovered during the pandemic that VTT gaming save lots of time and car miles, so we can cram out more gaming time each week. And many of us older VTT gamers have jobs and...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

Yeah, I've seen it. I try to view it as laughable and absurd, even though my brain at sleep time grind it as another major step toward a dystopian nightmare where we lease the right to breath air. But no politics, so let's go back to our grognardian skepticism about One D&D and the VTT :)

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

The current evolution of capitalism is to not even let consumers own stuff. Instead we buy the right to, for a limited time, use something that we willingly fill with value that we can lose any minute. Good times.

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

I'm thinking about the monetization aspect. Having a higher subscription level for Beyond where the VTT is included would be fine. But micro transactions for terrain etc is very off-putting for me - I would never use a VTT where I have to pay 2 bucks to get access to a moss-covered dungeon wall...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Both my monsters and spells will be able to crit, it's not like monsters are too strong now, and my table like crits - it's one of the few things that break fighting tedium.

Planescape 5 New D&D Books Coming in 2023 -- Including Planescape!

I'm not surprised. Hopefully they change their mind, but I guess Spelljammer might sell too well. Still, I cross my fingers.

Planescape 5 New D&D Books Coming in 2023 -- Including Planescape!

Haven't read the whole thread, but I really hope they don't go with the three-thin-book model for Planescape. It didn't do Spelljammer justice imho.

Dragonlance Do you plan to buy Dragonlance?

Dragonlance was important for me as a kid. But now....I will probably buy it on Beyond to check it out, but I very much doubt I'll use it for actual play.

    D&D 5E (2024) [+] The things I like about D&D One Playtest, and the things I LOVE!

I think the rules and mech changes will be ok and playable. Background focus and inspiration mechanics sounds great. But what I'm really curious about is the Unreal-based VTT thingy, and what the price point will be to use it. All in all, it looks pretty good, even though I'm burned out on D&D...

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

We all buy the thing since we are slaves to compulsive rpg hyperconsumerism. The deal that is broken is however I will use the product. ;-)

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

Sorry, I should have written that there is no The Arcane in sight, other than an anonymous post about some blue space merchants that have multiverse race telepathy for no apparent reason.

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

Yes, it would be easy. But if I have to change the foundational concept of the setting, tack on mechanics for space action, use old material if I actually want to have a working Bral in my game, etc etc, I don't see what use the books are. I just keep my current working home-brew.

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

Contrary to the OP, for me the lack of crystal spheres is a dealbreaker. Still, I caved in and preordered last week. Currently I run a brew of DMs Guild stuff and the original books for jamming, which works great. But I was hoping that 5Ejammer would give some good mechanics for space combat etc...

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

Yep. Half my table are pretty extreme FR lore nerds, and I have no problem using a gently modded and Elminster-filtered FR for my campaigns.

Spelljammer Spelljammer setting Unlocks on the DMsGuild 8/16!

Think I have to pass, most of my players aren't mentally ready to handle a Vorpal Gatling Laser in a D&D environment.

Spelljammer Spelljammer setting Unlocks on the DMsGuild 8/16!

One can hope so. I run home-brewed Spelljammer atm, which works fine, but usable official 5e stuff would probably be more streamlined for my players.
