D&D 5E (2014) Has D&D spoiled you on other RPGs?

Maybe, in the sense that 5e is completely transparent and unobtrusive for me and my table. The system pushes everyones lazy buttons, it's simply no effort to prep and play. Well that is not completely true, prepping and DMing high level 5e sucks equus asinus reproductive organ. And it's become...

Spelljammer Spelljammer setting Unlocks on the DMsGuild 8/16!

I only get rpg stuff in pdf format these days, because of price, space, convenience and being nice to the climate. I'm an old fart and nothing will ever compare to reading on paper, but times change. I even read much of my fiction in ebook format. (But to be honest, only after I discovered that...

    d100-based WH40K: Imperium Maledictum Announced

Do I love WFRP and the Old World? Oh yeah. Do I like 40k as a roleplaying milieu? Not really. Will I get this anyway? Yep.

D&D General Reskinning for fun and profit

I reskin stuff all the time, mostly because I'm lazy and am pretty tired of 5e's combat system - I mean, a bag of hp is a bag of hp, special stuff usually doesn't matter that much for meat and potatoes enemies. The only time I actually mod monsters in Beyond is for plot arch bosses, special NPCs...

What Kind of VTT Do You Want

Immersive 3D would be nice IF it was stupidly easy to prep with. And I think it will take quite some time before we are there. Otherwise I am happy with what I use now - unobtrusive 2D with Owlbear, and "choose your own complexity level 2D" with Foundry.

    Which VTT do you use?

If the players draw maps I guess there's lots of theatre of the mind going on? In Foundry, isn't the easiest solution that you have a scene with a tight square grid where the players draw their map, and then a blank squared battle map scene where you draw the room or whatnot where the battle...

D&D General "I have Experienced What I'd Call 'DM Burnout'" (a poll)

I answered False, since the game mastering and creativity aspects is effortless, my dear brain keeps bubbling out stuff. At the moment though I am a bit burned out by superheroics in higher level D&D. The mechanics get messed up and the game forces me into plot framings I don't really enjoy if...

D&D 5E (2014) Astral Sea and Wildspace in the 5e Cosmology

Was a 5e 'jammer fanboy, but have embraced my grognardness. So my astral plane is the same as the version we love since a bunch of decades. The phlogiston and crystal spheres are still there, and I keep on spelljamming with my home-brewed version of the old system. Edit: Was going to get the...

    Which VTT do you use?

AboveVTT for D&D, Foundry for WFRP4e and everything else. Edit: And will get a subscription for tryouts when Owlbear Rodeo 2.0 releases.

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

Thay planar prison - butts kicked.

What are you reading in 2022?

A bit late on the train, started on 2666 by Bolano, really good so far. Also digged into the second Felix & Gotrek anthology - I have become an unashamed Old World fanboy, with The Enemy Within in the starter blocks for this fall.

Spelljammer Space Clowns Are A Thing In Spelljammer

I won't get the new Spelljammer - partly because of astral stuff, partly because I'm happy with my home-brewed 'jammer. And killer clowns from outer space...I mean, I love that Spelljammer traditionally is a bit gonzo, but this borders on a heavy immersion crusher. I definitely wouldn't use them.

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

    An elegant solution sir!

Disney Star Wars Is It Actually That Bad?

I'm no mega-SW-nerd so no tiers from me. I just find it interesting that the Mandalorian/Boba/Obi-Wan series to me conveys a much more strong, genuine and authentic SW feeling that all the films. The gritty and lived in feeling that is only hinted at in the films comes to bloom. Oh well, carry...

D&D General "When I DM, I Try to Make Sure to Lay Eyes on Every Roll My Players Make to Confirm It" (a poll)

I play with a table of friends, of course I trust them with dice rolls. I might add that they are very adept at making suboptimal but interesting characters and anti-metagaming, and if anyone fudge rolls it's me as DM.

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

Are you somehow implying that sipping coconut drinks on a private yacht in the West Indies surrounded by a staff of beautiful people who obey our slightest hint is somehow preferable to playing pretend elves with Catpiss Man in his mothers cellar? Preposterous!

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

Well. Jeff Bridges is a way better general actor and has done a bunch of great movies and roles. But for genre, Kurt Russell all the way. "Call me Snake" ain't no Batty monologue, but still immortal.

Lance Henriksen and Peter Weller: EnWorld Decides

Lance is obviously a way more sophisticated actor with a much more important body of genre work and contribution. Weller is a dabbler in comparison. Objectively! And Rutger Hauer isn't a poor mans anything. Salute of the Jugger alone raise him above any comparisons. Also objectively.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

My only worry are the very strong teenage romance syndrome vibes from what we've seen. Or maybe the actors and play styles just looks that way because I'm old. But if they can avoid that I will probably enjoy the show for what it hopefully will be - fun action and drama with a Tolkienesque...

    D&D 5E (2014) [+] Questions for zero character death players and DMs…

My D&D is a game of larger than life fantasy heroes. Hence, the threat of death is theoretically there, but with a table of players that know adventuring 101 it pretty much never happens. Or if it happens, the characters are resurrected or whatnot. And that's how my group likes it. When we play...
