What are you reading in 2025?

Doing a quick sidestep from my planned reading with a re-read of Paul Austers New York trilogy. Still incredibly good!

    Old School Essentials

I only own Hole and Incandescent of the adventures, but to me they are masterclasses of how commercial adventures should be written and structured, with almost zero unnecessary fat. They are probably the most zero prep of any adventures I've read. Now, I'm a 99% home-brew GM, but the OSE...

The ENWorld Electric Bard Gear (Etc) Thread

I started playing bass when I was 8, and studied for a couple of great guys in my teens. I was touring for 4 years in my early 20ies, but somewhere there I lost my passion, playing became more of a work to pay my bills. So I decided to keep music as a hobby, started Uni instead, and have only...

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Videogames (primarily on PC) has been a part of my life since I spent nights playing Elite on the C64 in front of an analog TV til my eye globes bled from static overload. My PC gaming probably peaked around the golden years of the og Baldurs gate and Fallout games - nowadays I can't understand...

    Let's talk Virtual Tabletops!

Yes, one can build bare bones system support in Foundry. But: For my group using VTT play with Discord video and voice is a necessary compromise with a handful of downsides, it will never replace the full experience of in person play. To party compensate for that, good VTT automation allow us...

    Let's talk Virtual Tabletops!

I only GM via VTT, and my primary system is Savage Worlds with home-brewed campaigns. Despite being a humanities guy who's shamefully non-techy, I'm very happy with Foundry. There are lots of community made mods for various degrees of automation etc, and the commercial cores and companions for...

Warhammer Fantasy The Old World RPG (TOW) is not WFRP Revised

Since I want The Old World without the 4e system, I’ll definitely buy this to check it out.

What are you reading in 2025?

Me, I would probably be happy hustling in The Sprawl compared to the irl societal development. There you can at least dream about and strive for a better future. Here it’s currently only a question of what will kill us first.

What are you reading in 2025?

This weekend I have Synners by Pat Cadigan as bed reading. Got it used like 20 years ago, and despite me being a cyberpunk aficionado I didn't touch it until now. It's good, comfy, old fashioned cp, and dated in a good way for the fan. Needed some comfort reading now, as next week I'll have to...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Seems like a desciption of my players party of Good adventurers in action 😂

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

Dex save to avoid getting hit, Con save each round to break the poison. Come on folks, it’s not that hard, just a common sense interpretation of bad rule text most of us have done hundreds or thousands of times.

Project Sigil Sigil, WotC 3D vtt game automation no more?

Imho the more I automate Foundry in different systems, the more time per session can be spent on roleplaying and fun stuff instead of long tedious engagements with crunchy mechanics. That doesn’t mean I fill Foundry with animations and explosions - one can automate different things.

How likely are you to use D&D for your next game?

Was planning for DCC, but with the Savage Worlds Sci fi Companion finally coming to Foundry, my next campaign will put the players in space for a year or two.

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

I guess that's a matter of how much magic you have at your disposal, and if corporate law and ethical boundaries are set by a tyrannical lich emperor or a benevolent half-elf king. My players sure had fun developing their corpse re-finishing bulk sell business, "the freshest zombie material in...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

My table usually have two recurring themes during campaigns, no matter what system or genre: Establish trade or business with the long-term goal of monopoly. Crush the oppressing government, no matter who or what kind of government exist, they manage to construct it as oppressive. I indulge...

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

I used to love reading massive purple prosey, fluffy rpg tomes with complex rules that took work to parse. But nowadays the reading rpg books for fun has lost its lustre. My goto game is Savage Worlds. Even though it's not totally stripped, its core and companions are pretty thin. Lists of...

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

I wish all rpg tomes came it two formats: one with art, lore, fluff and walls of text, and one in a strict tech manual format like Old School essentials. With that said, my current love-hate books are C7:s WFRP 4e. I love the art, lore and fluff, but the actual rules - which are unnecessary...

Worlds of Design: How Long is Your Game Meant to Be?

As an older perma-GM, I prefer long sandbox campaigns. This is a D&D thread, but I still want to say that I'm sad that a lot of newer games doesn't support that playstyle in practice, like a lot of Free League stuff. I might like the system, concept, worlds etc, but if it isn't long...
