    Fantasy "The Boys" for SWADE

Thanks for the reply, I agree with your reasoning. You and your table will have lots of fun with this one!

    Fantasy "The Boys" for SWADE

Just a question - from the above, is Savage Worlds really the best system for this? I personally would prefer something a bit more mechanically and tactically crunchy and involved, just to let the players be more creative in taking on very overwhelming odds. Or the opposite, something very rules...

    Nifty concept :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes Still Missing?

Maybe my players are simpletons, but they've hardly moved beyond PHB stuff despite having access to most WotC books. I give them pretty much free hands to reskin stuff like spell effects and such to match their character concept and background though, but they haven't used it much. So I don't...

What is and isn't Space Opera?

Genre mixups is a genre in itself, or at least what spawns many subgenres. But let's not turn too many postmodernist stones, or we'll change the thread subject.

What is and isn't Space Opera?

Unless the presumtive writer is living in a literary vacuum, I am pretty sure that they can and will genre-frame their upcoming story as space opera, or maybe military sci-fi depending on angle. Kind of like the person that want to write a story about a teenage girl that fall in love with a...

What is and isn't Space Opera?

Bickering about exact definitions of genres and subgenres is an incredibly stupid waste of time. But I'll bite :) Imho space opera has to be epic and grandiose in scale, together with some kind of accelerated protagonist character growth, and other definable stuff. But in my own head, I...

D&D 5E (2014) What kinds of design space is there in alignments?

I doubt that alignment will be a thing in D&D from 2024 on, as from how things has developed. So it might be better to put creative energy on something else :)

D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

As a forever DM, gnomes are one of my favorite NPC races, and there are way too few gnome PC's in my campaigns. Thats all.

What are you reading in 2022?

I bought almost all Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e stuff on pdf a while ago and are seriously hooked, so that and a couple of Felix and Gotrek anthologies steals my reading time at the moment. Besides that and the obligatory stack of unread academia I will try to make room for a rereading of...

Critical Role Story, rails, and running games

My players are not water. You know the old wooden toy where you try to guide a ball through a labyrinth with holes in the paths? Well, my players are the ball.

D&D 5E (2014) The tyranny of small numbers

I might be a bad DM, but I scale and adapt my encounters (or at least try to) to fit the partys abilities, so the challenge and fun stay the same no matter if they are optimizers or have less focus on maxing stats and abilities. So I'm all for players who go with non-maxed primary stats.

Wizards of the Coast Employees Walk Out Over Hasbro's 'Tone-Deaf' Response to Overturning of Roe v. Wade

As a Swedish person leaning strong to the left, I choose not to ban myself by using the words that this matter deserv. Let's just say that I'm happy that some people in the US are willing to risk their jobs for stuff that really, really matter. Here I deleted a couple of paragraphs with my sad...

What game is the best simulationist game?

I never delved deep in Gurps. But of the game I've owned and played, it's probably Aftermath. Very crunchy in a try-hard simulationist way, while still being slightly playable. I guess it is still beaten by Phoenix Command and other math-crunch simulationist nightmares.

    If you had a robot…

Unless it can be modded with fake Leonard Nimoys voice. Then I bow before the words of the almighty machine.

    If you had a robot…

This. I would make it as dumb as possible and try to shut down all voice nonsense, as I do with my electronic stuff today. Just as I prefer written text to podcasts and audio books (they are too slow and waste my time), I don't understand why I should talk to a glorified washing machine when I...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Greatest Thing about 5e

First, yes, available complementary material - be it player input from foras or 3PP - is probably greater than ever. That is not the same as having a majority of the player base creating their own campaigns and adventures. As to the game style Wiz are selling, it's a D&D with the edges filed...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Greatest Thing about 5e

I started with AD&D too (well, technically Runequest and Traveller) and yes, I agree. But you can't compare seriously old school gaming 40 years ago with what new young players are expecting today, or the gaming style that WotC are selling to them. When we started, homebrewing was the default -...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Greatest Thing about 5e

Imho there is a lack of them in the WotC material, even if you imply that I don't know where to look. It's not a problem for me personally, since I homebrew my monster/opponent abilities with inspiration from other editions and game systems. But for newer DMs and players this might be a thing...

    Weekend Nonsense: Favorite Bad RPG

Violence RPG was more of a spoofy social commentary than something that was meant to be played. But me and my at that time colleagues had lots of fun with it back in the day, beer and pretzel style, before hitting the clubs. When you are a career governmental bureaucrat for a living it's good...
