Dragonlance Dragonlance adaptation to D&D 5th Edition

Well I really didn’t like the Fifth Age stuff at all, so I just stopped reading the novels at that point. So I’m not personally vested in any of that and preferred the setting (and pre-Great Dragon geography) I knew.

Dragonlance Dragonlance adaptation to D&D 5th Edition

Cool! I'm running a Dragonlance 5E campaign myself (set 300 years after DoSF). I just ignored the whole Age of Mortals/War of Souls timeline and branched off from DoSF. I’ll admit my approach was just to reskin or only lightly touch up the available 5E races and classes as much as possible...

    Everybody Cheats?

I have one player who tries to cheat like this, and let me tell you, it ruins the game for everyone else. I roll in the open as a DM and recently have been playing online a lot using a chat bot dice roller, and it's great. Everything is in the open and you have to describe what the roll is...

D&D 5E (2014) What does D&D mean to you? Why do you play it?

Social seems a popular choice, but that's not why I play D&D. I would be social anyway. I was social during the years I didn't play D&D. I play D&D because I enjoy the D&D parts of it! So I voted Tactical, Versus, and Fantasy. Those seem like unpopular choices, but they're the reason I play D&D...

    Common Houserules?

I have no idea what is generally used as house rules. I have a sense of what most people see at weaknesses. Below is just my view of what I think the consensus is. The warlock's blade pact is a little weak compared to the other pacts. The Hexblade patron (using Charisma for pact weapon attacks...

    Thoughts on Setting

It's very original! I do recommend using teleportation circles to go back and forth, because (unless there's some giant world-spanning wall separating them, like Game of Thrones) any realistic tide locked world would have hundreds of miles of "twilight" borderlands between the truly sunny...

    Planejammer / Spellscape

This is a very good list. You'd need to add one or two Space-cities, like the Rock of Bral, as well. Maybe an Astral Sea piratical port-o-call run by less-murderous-than-average Githyanki. You'd also need rules for allowing low-level characters (who don't have access to Plane Shift) to travel...

Changing your spells known as a Bard/Ranger/Sorcerer/Warlock

Now that's an idea. I should have thought of that. Or maybe make it some kind of vision quest thing. Depends on the class I guess. This has bothered me about 5E's class design too. The Wizard knows more spells, can prepare more spells, can cast rituals out of their book without preparing them...

Changing your spells known as a Bard/Ranger/Sorcerer/Warlock

Situational stuff. Counterspell and Fireball are pretty universally useful, but no one ever picks stuff like Locate Plants and Animals because it's something you probably need twice in a career.

Changing your spells known as a Bard/Ranger/Sorcerer/Warlock

There's no fixed number. It's more like "this is the level 5 adventure", and everyone is level 5 on that adventure for however long it takes. Then there's a period of downtime and a couple months later or next spring some new danger arises and the heroes need to band together again, but now...

Changing your spells known as a Bard/Ranger/Sorcerer/Warlock

I am looking for feedback on a potential house rule. I want to give the classes with fixed lists of spells known (Bard, Ranger, Sorcerer, Warlock) a bit more flexibility in terms of changing the spells they know. The default rule is changing one spell when you level up, but I prefer to run...

Two New Settings For D&D This Year

To my mind, it would be cool if the Astral Sea replaced the Phlogiston in Spelljammer. So you get a combination Spelljammer/Astral Sea setting.

How often do you see Attacks of Opportunity in your 5e game?

Fairly often. My players are calculated risk-takers and will often risk an OA rather than waste an action on Disengage. The action economy is real and getting a spell or full attack action off can be worth the risk of a single weapon attack. Canny and tactical enemies will often do the same...

    D&D 5E (2014) Text-play

Track down a chat bot that will roll dice for you. They exist and you can invite them to a group chat. I run a campaign using a play-by-post where we make the rolls in the group chatroom using a dicebot. "Dicebot roll 1d20+7 sword attack", etc.

    Fey in 5e DnD

I absolutely love the Fey, thematically, and would definitely buy a "Volo/Mordekainen" type book that gave them a proper treatment. I'd love ideas like the inability to break promises or wear masks. In my own cosmosology, Faerie, the Shadowfell, and the Underworld are all separate planes...

    D&D General Welcome Thread

Hello friends! I have been a member here since about a week after the GenCon when 3.0 was first announced, and I still love it here. Welcome!

D&D 5E (2014) How do you interpret the Oath of Ancients?

Ooh, I like this. That's short and sweet, but also sufficiently not-abstract to be useful in play.

D&D 5E (2014) Players forgetting about potions and scrolls

In my experience, both as a DM and player, consumables only get used when a character is out of other resources. So if they're out of slots and down to just cantrips, the wand or scroll comes out. If a fighter is low on HP and has already used Second Wind, that's when the healing potion gets...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you interpret the Oath of Ancients?

The one time I played an Oath of the Ancients paladin, I was explicitly the Green Knight from the Arthurian legends. It was a historical campaign. Someone else played a courtier from the Court of Charlemagne. I look at the oath of the ancients abilities holistically. You have the oaths...

Drift Into The Sea Of Leaves With The Summerland RPG

Oh this sounds rad as hell. I wish Wizards made D&D stuff this evocative. I'd love to see Ravenloft with slightly-different Trauma, Drift, and Call mechanics.
