    Discworld D20

I didn't think Discworld magic worked that differently from D20 magic. I don't think it would cost xp each time a wizard or witch cast a spell or anything like that. Wizards and Witches learn spells and then cast them. Spellcasting is possible because of the massive amount of magic that...

    Discworld D20

Since I can't do a search because I'm not a community supporter (I'm not interested in paying for features provided for free on most other forums) I was wondering if someone could post links to threads discussing a D20 setting based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, if any exist. I'm...

    List of Mythic creatures

Just a few questions left and I think the list is as complete as I can get it. Can someone help me with my questions about the catoblepas, Greek dragons, and the creatures I can't seem to place? Again, if anything on the list is missing, shouldn't be there, or is in the wrong place, please let...

    List of Mythic creatures

OK, forget about the Roman creatures. It sounds like the Lamia from the MM is the male version of the Lammasu, is this correct? If that's the case I suppose it can be placed under Egypt (Assyrian). The MM version is evil, was the mythological version evil as well?

    List of Mythic creatures

I've been going over the posts in this thread and I've come up with some questions: Should I include Roman creatures (like the peryton) with Greek creatures? I can note which ones are actually Roman. Or should they have a seperate list? Where is the catoblepas from. I'm fairly sure it's Greek...

    List of Mythic creatures

A lot of Germanic creatures seem to be what people think of when they think of Celtic creatures. It was either lump them with Celtic creatures, or Norse. There are already a bunch of Norse creatures, but I didn't have all that many Celtic, so they went into the Celtic list. Drow is just the D&D...

    List of Mythic creatures

So Peryton, Stirges, Elementals, and Hippogriff are off the list. The Catoblepas seems to be a mix of the D20 Catoblepas and the D20 Gorgon. The Manticore is Asian. And I have to make stats for a Giant Turtle (maybe a Dragon Turtle without its breath weapon?). Keep in mind that some newer...

    List of Mythic creatures

@remathilis - Animals with mythic abilites are usually rare or unique cases. Since I'm including Dire animals I may include normal animals with mythic abilites. Got a list? @CCamfield - You are welcome to use it. I just wish something similar had been inlcuded in the OGL Ancients book...

    List of Mythic creatures

This is all great stuff. There are still some things that need to be sorted out though. If there is anything else missing from the list, or that should be removed from the list, or that is in the wrong place on the list, please post the corrections here.

    List of Mythic creatures

@tarchon - If the Peryton were invented during the time of the Roman Empire then maybe I should remove them from the list. I already have enough Greek creatures, I don't need to add in creatures from Roman mythology, especially ones that are much more modern then what I'm looking for. I wouldn't...

    List of Mythic creatures

Peryton were not only blamed for the fall of the Roman Empire, but they were also supposed to have attacked Greek ships on a regular basis. I don't know if that makes them Roman, Greek, or both.

    List of Mythic creatures

@Remathilis Is this the D&D Elf, or is it more of the fairy-like elf? Where are the D20 stats for these creatures, are there any? Aren't these Norse, or are there Celtic equivelants? This list is just for mythic creatures. Real animals are a whole other kettel of fish. @pigi314159...

    List of Mythic creatures

OK, I've had some great feedback from the other thread and I've been able to make up a list of D&D creatures that have counterparts in real world mythology. Creatures marked with * are ones I'm fairly certain are where they're supposed to be. Those without * are just guesses and have yet to be...

Hasn't anyone got a list of their own that they would like to share?

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

How about this, if you can pick out the D&D creatures that are based on real world mythology (mostly from the MM and the MM2, but creatures from the Fiend Folio, Epic Level Handbook, and other sources are good too) please post lists sorted by location. Forget about time period. If I try to limit...

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

So maybe I should stick with Irish, Scottish, and British mythology and pawn it off as Celtic? The campaign doesn't have to be 100% accurate :)

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

At the moment I just want to try to sort out the creatures that exist in real world mythology. If a creature exusts in several cultures mythology then list them all. Once that's done I'll try to place creatures that don't exist in real world mythology where I think they should go (suggestions...

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

Ok then, separate lists for Persians and Arabians it is. I never planned on dividing fairies, demons, and spirits. I kinda thought they were all thought of as the same thing, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for confirming it. I'd also just like to say; the web sites I've suggested by people so...

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

OK, although discussing the origins of lots of D&D monsters is fascinating, this thread is getting kind of confusing and I need to make this topic a little more specific. I am doing this in preperation for an OGL ancients campaign I'm goiog to run very soon. What I'm interested in is a campaign...

I need help sorting the MM by real world culture

Endland didn't exist in the time period I'm making these lists for, it was all Celtic. I'm not interested in cultures or creatures that aren't part of the ancient world. Did Germany exist in ancient times? Or was it all just part of some other culture, like the Norse/Scandenavians? Anyway, I...
