D&D 5E (2014) Update: Amazon, PHB for $22.50~ (or MM $25.40~, DMG $25.40~), and $10 off when preordering the DMG, MM and something else together

Just cancelled my pre-orders and tried using these. I used the BUY3GET20 first and it worked fine, but it wouldn't let me use BUY3GET30.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Cosmology

They did a pretty good job with it this time around. I like the inclusion of the shadowfell, feywild and elemental chaos. And while I liked the 4e origin story for the abyss I understand why they had to pull it out of the elemental chaos to make it work with this cosmology. It's not shown but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Summoning Spells

It's been conjurer since specialist wizards were first introduced in 1989 with 2nd edition. I'm not sure about elementals, but celestials and fiends don't have free will, they're servants of their superiors. Demon princes or arch devils for fiends, and the gods for celestials. Elementals...

D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen Maps

In the Return of Archwizards trilogy the books explain that the shades use their shadow magic to create what are essentially heating blankets, that they use to absorb sunlight and melt the glacier north of Anauroch. The gradual melting of the glacier releases enough water to begin altering the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sweet! My BBEG's are immortal now!

It was always more of a tool for evil NPCs to cheat death..

    D&D 5E (2014) Sweet! My BBEG's are immortal now!

They had this spell in 2nd ed. Forgotten Realms somewhere, I forget which book it was in. But yeah as quoted this is why Manshoon is still around despite Elminster killing him and tracking down his clones on numerous occasions. There was always a clone squirreled away somewhere that was over looked.

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question about Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Yeah I'll probably just print and coil bind it so I can at least fold it over so it doesn't have to be spread open like a hardback.

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question about Hoard of the Dragon Queen

OK thanks. That answers my question, unfortunately not the answer I was hoping for. I greatly prefer to have the monsters listed with each encounter so I don't have to have as many books open at the table. I have a fairly large group so table space is at a premium.

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question about Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Yup, I saw that too. Would still like to know how they are shown in the book.

    D&D 5E (2014) Knock Prone and Move

You can knock them prone and have a chance to get away clean from one enemy, or disengage and automatically get away clean from all enemies. Both cost an action so if you're just trying to back off disengage is the obvious choice. Now if you're trying to keep the enemy from chasing down another...

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question about Hoard of the Dragon Queen

My books won't be coming in until the 19th so I can't check myself. Can someone who has the book tell me if the monsters stats are listed with each encounter; or are they all compiled together in the back of the book?

    Kickstarter D&D Documentary Kickstarter

The Great Kingdom, A feature length documentary uncovering the true tale of the rise and fall of the creators Dungeons & Dragons. Looks like this has the makings to be a pretty good documentary but they need help funding it. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/720223857/the-great-kingdom

    Love for Hackmaster?

There are certain things about the system I really like, like the count up mechanic, and knockbacks. But other things I really didn't care for. The whole engage mechanic I felt is a bit wishy washy, for a system with as much crunch as Hackmaster has I felt it should be more clear whether you...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon and Spell Speed Factor Module

I'm not really fond of rolling for initiative every round, that just takes up extra time unnecessarily. I'd rather use a system that throws out the concept of rounds entirely. Make one initiative roll at the start, then each action takes so many seconds and you just keep counting up until combat...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon and Spell Speed Factor Module

The latest version of Hackmaster uses a "count up" initiative method which accounts for speed and reach. Everyone starts the combat by rolling initiative and the GM starts counting at 1, the players declare what they're doing when their initiative comes up, and it's resolved after a delay equal...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon and Spell Speed Factor Module

Having spells use their level for speed doesn't really cut it, some spells by their nature should be faster or slower based on what they're trying to accomplish. For example summoning spells should be slow, even if it's only summon monster 1, but power words should be very fast, even though...

    Non-turn based rpg's?

Does anyone know of any non-turn based rpg's out there? So far the only one I've found is Hackmaster 5th edition with it's count up system, which I really like. But there are a few things about the system that I could do without so I'm curious what else is out there.

    Dragon Domain needs help (PEACH)

There was a domain in 3.5 deities and demi-gods called Scaleykind that was meant for dragon related deities. Would be a good place to start from.

    10 segmented combat

A normal round is a standard action and a move action, so I'd have a full attack take the same amount of time that a normal attack, plus a move. That makes it a little faster than taking 2 attacks. Although if you think about it, pretty much all full attack options are just multiple attacks...

    10 segmented combat

That's a really cool idea. But I can see it being difficult to track everything in combat.
