Star Wars d20: Consular vs. Guardian

The argument that character builds can differentiate the two classes is specious. Character build can differentiate two characters of the same class. I don't think there's a problem here, but I do think it would be interesting if they were more differentiated. If you still think the Consular...

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed: Variant Classes

Well, I didn't call you on the Spirit Warrior because I've wanted a more spirit focused TW or GB for a while. So by the name alone I let it slide :) In reaction to the variant Mage Blade, a fellow known as Lord Nightbringer on Monte's boards has a pretty good ranged-Mageblade class...

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed: Variant Classes

That is a bit confusing. Just ignore the thread title. That kind of clever doesn't help an already confusing situation. In any case, the Arcane Champion can already be made with a Witch. I mean, yes, the default flavor is different, but the Witch is a whole lot closer than the Champion to...

Psionics or Psychics with d20 Modern rules

I was recently poking at an idea for a Psychic advanced class- using entirely my own rules. I stopped work on it to develop a more general occult subsystem instead... the Psychic might get mental juices flowing. http://dre.grayside.org/wiki/index.php/Psychic

    Star Gate

I don't know- the advantage of P90's was the autofire/rapid fire. The Staff Weapons seemed to have a more limited rate of fire and better damage. Or at least that's how I interpreted what I saw on the magic box.

That's why the Zat does lots of nonlethal damage.

    Star Gate

I read through, looks pretty cool. Did someone in the group do that patch image? Its a very nice game symbol. It made me realize that there are indeed a few things that slipped my memory about the universe that a book might help. Or watching everything again while taking copious notes.

If anyone decides to do a d20 Modern Stargate adaptation, I'd like to keep track- and maybe offer some input.

    [Dreamscapes] Discussion Thread (with creator)

It varies with each occurrence. * The nature of the target's mind or spirit * The reason for the sequence * What necessitated that reason. If the target was driven insane by a dark curse, then entering his mind is a difficult, soul-wrenching experience. In the particular case this last...

    Gestalt Star Wars D20

I prefer to describe Yoda and Windu as around 30th level. (Official stats or no. Don't you think they're epic?)

    [Dreamscapes] Discussion Thread (with creator)

Mindscapes and Dreamscapes are fairly common in my campaigns- they usually come up at least twice a year as a method of repairing mental or spiritual damage. I find imagination, Will saves, Concentration checks, and the like, played by ear, to be more than enough for my purposes. An...

Is killing something Good an inherently Evil act?

General applicable thoughts: * There's a difference between an evil act and an evil reputation. You can commit a non-evil deed that damns you as a villain in the eyes of history. * Paladins and other exemplars of virtue cannot seem to be evil. If a paladin got into this mess, they probably...

    Iron Lore Excerpts

Black Company has a very nice structure of Masterwork Items that can get up to such things as +3 to hit and +2 to damage (going with fairly boring improvements). I would be surprised if Iron Lore neglected the replacement of magical gear with an expanded mastercrafting system. It is also a...

[Black Company] Want a different combat.

Accounting for the Massive Damage Threshold and Armor as DR, weapons generally do one hd-size greater damage. Or more. So its already perfectly gritty. All lowering your threshold to Con would do is make non-melee concepts truly unworkable. I've just finished playing in an, oh, six session...

[Black Company] Mental Effects of War

That sounds like a fine way to flavorize hit points/Con damage. However, hit points really encompass all manner of things. Its an abstraction, and generally speaking *every* effort to make more specific definition leaves conceptual holes. But that doesn't mean that emphasizing a given flavor...

    Iron Lore Excerpts

I got the distinct sense that the Hunter was the most difficult class to play, aside possibly for the Arcanist. Its not intended for just anyone- but rather the best tactitians/rules monkeys among the players.

Conan Dodge & Parry rules in Grim Tales?

    1) Conan's not a straight-up barbarian. 2) When you wear heavy armor, the Max Dex hinders Dodge. Also, you cannot Parry Touch Attacks. As the horde of 25 grapple-crazy sewer zombies taught us last night.

[Black Company] Want a different combat.

Well, I'll just add my voice to Conan. It is a much more streamlined system and its easier to read given that mass combat stuff is not trickled everywhere. I mostly use BCCS for idea-mining. There are a number of complicated and interesting ideas in BCCS that Conan handles much easier. For...

[Black Company] Anyone try the BC wizard class alongside Core divine or XPH psionics?

If you want Divine Magic, just flavorise a BCCS wizard as a priest that claims all his power from on high. If there is more specific stuff in Divine Magic or Psionics, I suggest you either create new talents, or a new class with a number of spell-like abilities. Black Company is not about...

    Blood and Guts II
