    Artifacts and Ethereal Plane Rules.

I agree that, other things being equal, the gem will now become ethereal when you do. The only caveat is that artifacts can sometimes be surprising. Perhaps the gem is bound to the Prime Material Plane in some way.

    Gravity

People talk about hypothetical fighters jumping off 100' cliffs for a lark, or for a quick way down to the bottom. I've never seen this behavior in 27 years of play, though. If fighters jumping off cliffs "because they can" is extremely rare, is the survivability of falls that big of a problem...

Would you buy new 100% compatable 1E modules?

I have already bought many. Some (e.g. Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom, Cairn of the Skeleton King) I enjoyed quite a lot, others (the 0one modules) not so much. Since I run two 1E campaigns, these modules are of great interest to me.

    AD&D1 Combat Exercise

Except that when Yrag is surprised, he can't count his Dexterity bonus or shield to his armor class. In the surprise segment he is not AC -4, he is only AC 1. Also, due to the repeated 20s on the attack matrix, the hobgoblins would also hit AC -4 on a natural 20, IIRC.

Is this even being released in hardcopy form, or is it strictly PDF?

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

No question that SW combat can be deadly. Three out of the 5 player characters in our game have died since reaching legendary rank, usually due to a damage roll with many aces. I just have a hard time visualizing a human being who is hit repeatedly by deadly attacks and is in no way affected...

Sell me on Savage Worlds -- for Fantasy

I play Savage Worlds (almost) every week, but that's because some of the people that I game with like it. I don't hate it by any means, but I'm not a big fan. We play a pulp setting, so I can't comment on Savage Worlds in the fantasy genre, specifically. But there are some parts of the game...

25 Years of Dungeons and Dragons

I started gaming in 1980. I still game with the people that I played with back then occaisionally (some of us have moved, so it's only possible when I visit my home town on vacation). My current campaign began in 1986. One of the regular players today dates back to the campaign's 2nd game...

[RANT] I Really Hate the United States Postal Service

Funny, IME, it's USPS that actually delivers packages and UPS that leaves me a notice saying that I have to drive out to their building and stand in a long line to pick things up.

    1E help!

Based on the end of the thread that you linked above, I assume that you're talking about first edition AD&D. With that in mind: Tables giving what each class needs to hit are in the DMG. A first level fighter or cleric with no other bonuses needs a 10 to hit AC 10 and a 20 to hit AC 0. A...

    BattleStar Galactica:Season 3.5--3/04/07--Arc 16

I suppose that the "Leoban" that Starbuck saw in her last moments was the same sort of being as the "Head-Six" that Baltar keeps seeing, or the "Head-Baltar" that Caprica Six keeps seeinng.

Weapons doing greater damage to Large Sized Creatures...why?

I' don't know the official answer, but I suppose that the logic was something like this: Big weapons do more damage to large creatures because more of the cutting edge is contacting the body of a large creature in a typical hit, just because the target is larger. For example, a two-handed...

    BattleStar Galactica:Season 3.5--1/28/07--Arc 12

I just viewed the cut scene at scifi.com. How did Caprica 6 end up as a prisoner?

1e inspiration list, how much have you read?

Anderson, Poul: I've read THREE HEARTS AND THREE LIONS and other things that he's written. Bellairs, John: THE FACE IN THE FROST is the only one of his books that I 've read. Brackett, Leigh: I've read some of her books. Brown, Fredric: I've read most of his short stories. Carter, Lin: I've...

Touch spells: were they always like this?

Whether or not a touch spell was wasted on a miss was not spelled out in the 1E rules, AFAIK. However, a "Sage Advice" column in the Dragon suggested that a touch spell that missed remained "on hands" as long as the character didn't do anything else (like casting another spell, wielding a...

    Oozes in fantasy...where's the inspiration?

I can only speculate. Here's a theory. A lot of D&D's inspiration came from the pulps. The pulps have a fair number of ooze-like creatures in them, from H.P. Lovecraft's shoggoths, C.A. Smith's formless spawn of Tsathoggua, to the titular creature in Joseph Payne Brennan's story "Slime".

    Dming Vault of the Drow

I used the module in my campaign as a sequel to the "Against the Giants" and "Descent into the Depths of the Earth" modules, so the player characters had a motive for being there. More than one reason, actually. I also played in it, under another DM. It can be a lot of fun with the right type of...

    OSRIC -- update

I'm very interested in "Monsters of Myth". Could you give a rough estimate of when this will be available for purchase?
