I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

There has been a request not to release "spoilers" to people who received the book early. They have said not to do unboxing videos and such. It was discussed on the Daggerheart reddit.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I don't think I've ever read something that I agree with more. Lots of different games to experience different things. And that Hero system part too. Bravo!

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

Absolutely correct! I think we're just seen a ton of "D&D should really do this," or "D&D does this thing really bad." And that's led to hundreds of different game systems. And I like playing some of them a lot. None of them have replaced D&D. The time D&D had a serious change made to it, 4E, is...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

I think this is the point. I have seen "D&D done right" since the 1970s. D&D is still at the top of the chain. Last year I experienced at least half a dozen "D&D adjacent" games and none of them received any serious traction. 2025 is going to have several strong contenders, so we'll see how that...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

From time to time I ask "Hey, who actually is still doing design work at WotC?" And people have reminded me of Chris Perkins, which always makes me say, "Oh, yeah, I suppose I should probably just chill out..." And here we are today. I wonder who's going to finally turn the lights off there...

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

I think I agree with you on this. I really think the next couple of years are going to show if this is true or not. Someone is going to have to step forward. I have just always believed that WotC (and TSR before it) took a lot of the slings and arrows of people who don't like RPGs, and let...

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

I guess I still see a lot of people acting like things are going great. As I think about it, I'd say they'll come out aggressively when people say things aren't going well, which is really a different thing. I think clarification from a source other than me, who I must tell you, is nobody, is...

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

I was thinking this. I have been accused of being negative, but I'm not saying anything like this.

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

I think this piece is pretty much spot on. WotC appeared to have a plan for the continued development of 5.5E after the books launched, but with Sigil sunsetting, that "walled garden" approach to monetizing the game for online play and drawing the big third-party publishers in ... leaves out the...

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

They played it at the Flix Brewery Theater near where I live. They tend to do a series of movies like that over time. So I had an expensive beer and watched it on the big screen.

D&D 5E (2024) What Licensed IP Do You Want For 5E?

It's kind of funny. I saw this thread and like some threads do, it really got me thinking. And over time, I decided I can't think of a single IP I'd like to see drawn into the 5E world. I just saw the movie Legend last night (after watching it on VHS about 100 times) and it definitely would work...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

This is such a good point. I've been holding off on buying product until my group decided what platform we're going to go with. We were probably going to use Sigil, which wasn't ideal to me, but I'm in for what the group wants. Now we're wondering about our existing Roll20 setup or switching to...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

In our group it was the DM who fell in love with 3D. We all go along with what the DM wants so we were looking into it. I think our DM would love to spend hours making maps for it. I know he uses Dungeon Alchemist right now with 2D and those maps look amazing. When I make one? It looks slapped...

Wizards of the Coast Is Sunsetting Sigil's Active Development

The 3D aspect is really challenging there's no denying that. I'd love to see how all of the different VTTs handle it. I know that Foundry has a third-party module for this but when I investigated it, it was far too complicated for casual use. Nice to see what Fantasy Grounds is doing!

D&D General Matt Colville on the “Forever DM”

As a former debate coach, yeah, the differences are pretty serious: you have an issue that's resolved to be true or not and then people taking positions, citing evidence, debunking the other side's evidence. This thread started with the suggestion that people would find the video interesting...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

This sounds like a really rough situation and I feel for you tremendously. I play exclusively online, but I have a document with what my character can do with the edge cases included and it helps me tremendously. But I feel for you because we have one player who is a really smart guy in real...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

Good question. Typical combat length is about 30-45 minutes, with time between turns maybe 3-5 minutes. We have one player who is a little slow so varies. Out alternate campaign is 5E that moved from 3.5 to 5E (it's Shackled City) and combats in 3.5 at high level (we are 15 I think at last...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

It helps to understand what you mean. Tedious is a broad term that can mean a lot of different things. What are you looking for in D&D combat that you're not getting? The game Strike has several combat modes where one of them is a simple one-time D6 roll for a combat you're expected to win. That...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

Looking over the thread it's going in a lot of directions. If I may ask, tedious as opposed to what? What's the goal here? As someone who is playing a game right now at level 8, we're moving around, having dynamic combats, and the typical fight lasts about four rounds. Not sure what more is to...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Combat Tedious on Purpose?

I think these are two separate issues. The first is that as a large public corporation, Hasbro is going to make WotC look at those financial considerations first. During Covid there was a time when WotC was being really successful with the D&D brand, and so they most likely weren't looking at...
