D&D General The Human Side of D&D History - From Gary Gygax to Temple of Elemental Evil

People are pushing back because they disagree with comments like"Those people don't matter" and feel that they dvery much do matter. In some ways this whole thing blowing up fiat second time even dials in the focus on things like that the clown to one that is looking less like a maybe light...

D&D General My nephew really loves Dungeons and Dragons

I used to have the megamat for years & years before switching over to a tabletop display & definitely agree on recommending the bigger size. I got the impression that the nephew is younger & could be wrong, a good poster tube (go with a screw cap one like this) will keep it from being bent...

D&D General My nephew really loves Dungeons and Dragons

Something not yet suggested is a chessex battlemat. Go to an office supply story & get a poster tube thing to store it in so he can carry it to a friend's house on his bike or whatever.

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

Yes it absolutely 100% is a player problem, what has changed is the second part of what I wrote where GM's are expected to just keep gently attempting to infuse blood into that stone rather than expecting players not arrive to the table as & maintain the form of a stone ;)

D&D General Matt Colville: "50 years later we're still arguing about what D&D even is!"

I've seen quite a few 5e games where the players seem to express total ignorance of the rules when it's convenient. Apparently it's bad form for a gm to expect players to meet a higher standard.

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

Uhh... Your complaint here seems to very much boil down to "if all you watch is Matt's videos you really only see Matt". Many of the Patreon entries are literally written by other team members and have talked about things they bring in. Just a quick skim of the most recent posts I see: one...

    Any AI Gamemasters Out There?

As many have pointed out, when an AI takes the reins as the GM in D&D, it feels like we’re just playing video games in clever costumes. Now, don’t get me wrong—video games can be a hoot, but they’re on a whole different quest. So, pondering this curious conundrum, I thought I’d play around with...

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

Could be wrong, but I think that OptionalRule was talking about some of the other specific complaints noted about DS based on an old early packet in RuinExplorer's post

    Draw Steel the MCDM RPG!

Thanks 4e wasn't exactly loved by a lot of folks & it made "4e vibes" a bit too vague. Yes combat is kinda "structured around ppwers" but no not in the same way as 4e. Instead of a hit roll like 4e your attacks always hit but need to make a power roll (2d10)to determine how well your ability...

    D&D 5E (2024) Exception-Based Design in D&D: When Rules Enable Rule Lawyers

It was ultimately more forgiving than that. Take a hypothetical scenario of needing to climb a sheer marble wall without relevant skills or having skills but having them too low to matter. The key was to lean into the solid & reliable skills abilities & items that the party did have to build...

    D&D 5E (2024) Exception-Based Design in D&D: When Rules Enable Rule Lawyers

I agree with 2014 was already setup to encourage that with do much of the FM's toolbox stripped bare even before they needed to start invoking rule0 hard just to create a challenge for all but the most deliberately inept parties. All of the "RAW is not in player favor here but it seems cool"...

D&D 5E (2024) No more Cleric and Sorc dips!

Could also be running AL or something similar filled with short/one shot type games. In fact that seems more likely edit: I stand corrected, it's the played ten 1-20 5e campaigns poster.

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

Killing dollar theaters hurt them too. Sure fees the streaming services pay to host the movies offset that to some degree, but it also nuked the weekly/monthly"movie night" routine for many and people didn't opt for a regular theater if the cheap options were slim and there was something worth...
