Subskills System - Anybody Got One?

There is precedent for using feats for something like this. A feat can grant a +2 bonus to two skills (alertness), a +3 bonus to one skill (skill focus), or a +4 bonus to one skill in limited circumstances (combat casting). Allowing a "subskill focus" feat that granted a +4 to one skill in...

    Taking 20 on Forgery

You can't do it. The check isn't made until someone actually looks at it. Since it's in secret, you don't even know how well you did. Taking 20 would require making 20 copies of the document and giving them all to the person you're trying to trick, which would sort of ruin the effect. In...

Monk and Feats - advice sought

Improved Grapple has Improved Unarmed Strike as its prereq, not combat expertise, so you're fine. Yes, you can stun first then trip or grapple. In fact, if you do so, you could stun with your first attack, disarm with your second since it's still at your top BAB due to flurrying; they can't...

    Tilted "dungeon"... side-effects???

That chart makes me happy. You could flesh it out a bit, though. Balance DC if running = 10 + balance DC if moving = 25 + climb DC. A 40 degree slope requires a DC 10 balance check, a dc 20 balance check if running, or a DC -5 climb check to negotiate. Why would anyone climb it? Maybe...

Monk and Feats - advice sought

For a monk with a high strength, you can't beat Improved Grapple. I played a monk up to 17th level, and grappling and tripping ended up being his best tricks. Speaking of that, yeah, you've got a good strength, go with Improved Trip as your monk 6 feat. Grapple and Trip are both touch...

[Planescape] Can you go ethereal or Astral while in Sigil?

In 2e, no, the ethereal plane was not connected to the outer planes at all. It went from the prime to the elemental planes. In 3e, most every plane has its own ethereal plane, right? So really it depends on how you're viewing sigil. It's a whacky little demiplane controlled by the LoP, the...

A Textbook Of Unnecessary Setting Design (sorta)

There are any number of things you can do to forestall this divination problem. For instance, divinations might go to a solar or planetar whom the deity has placed in charge of answering that kind of thing; a celestial minister of information, say. That celestial, while wise, won't know as...

Greatest American DVDs...Belive It Or Not...

Oh, so good. I loved this show when I was little, and went as TGAH for halloween one year. I must own this.

    Would you allow this class?

Compare it to the metamind, which gets about 33 limited bonus power points a day (free manifestations of lower-level powers), plus an 11 power-point bank he can fill and use later, plus a capstone ability that lets him manifest powers for free once/day for a minute (possibly up to 150 free power...

Can a monk use a ring of Force Shield?

I think you're right to be worried about that. The ring acts like a shield. Including, I would say, kicking in the "no monk bonus to AC" part of the monk AC clause. I would say you still need a hand free to use it, in response to your dual-wielding/two-handed weapon question. So not so...

Legacy and Legend: M&M Game (Potential Open Slots)

That's cool, I wasn't sure when you were planning on it, so I figured I'd get a head start on the character update thing. No problem waiting though.

    Polymorph question: kung-fu dino!

If they can conceivably fit on the new form, then they are still there and working, otherwise the are subsumed and do not. You can end up with some funny-dressed apes, umber hulks, etc this way. Yep. These questions are related. Natural attacks are not unarmed strikes, and therefore feats...

Legacy and Legend: M&M Game (Potential Open Slots)

Swell game last night, I had a great time. I've never played over IRC before, but it worked very well. So, we're going to advance our characters to PL 6. They're currently PL 2, and you're picking our powers. There's a 60 point spread there. Do you want to tell us the point value of the...

What are the dimensions of a poker chip?

Depends on how elaborate you want to get, I guess. It seems like you could cut up construction paper to get the same effect if you wanted to.

What are the dimensions of a poker chip?

Yeah, they're more than 1" diameter, because we use them to mark area-effect spells and one chip usually covers 4 squares pretty well when we place it on the line intersection. They're probably 1.25" to 1.5" diameter.

Ultimate magic item in a war is...

Against undead? Got any price limit/guidlines? A helm of brilliance isn't bad against a mob of skeletons or zombies- wipe out a 30' radius of them every couple of rounds. An orb of storms is pretty good against any massed force, regardless of species.

Those tricksy skills: Hide and Move Silently!

No. If the sniper makes his hide check at -20 versus your spot, you literally do not know what square he attacked from. You didn't see him. You were looking the wrong way when he shot or something.

Those tricksy skills: Hide and Move Silently!

I was assuming total concealment, I should have said, if he fails his hide check vs their spot, they can make their attack with the appropriate miss chance for concealment. Yeah, I'm munging "ducking behind something" and the "-20 to hide after sniping" in my mind. If you have total cover...

Those tricksy skills: Hide and Move Silently!

The sniping rules assume the rogue was hiding previously. He is thus unknown; on his turn in the action, he shoots the arrow from behind his cover/concealment, and then makes his hide check at -20 vs the spot check of everyone who might see him. Anyone he beats does not know where he is, even...
