List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

Thanks a bunch! I added Dreampark, When Gravity Fails, Nathan Never, and The Keep. I believe the Baron Munchausen RPG is based on a public domain character (like Wizard of Oz RPGs), so not included in my list. The Water Margin RPG appears to have been unlicensed and self-published (like Legend...

Breaking the Threefold Components and recombining them for a Total TRPG Corpus

Theoreticians among us developed the Threefold Model (and its offshoots), which proposed that every RPG is composed of, or leans toward, one of three “corners”: 1) Drama/Storytelling/Narrative: an RPG session as a novel-like or film-like experience 2) The Game Itself: for example, the...

    D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Ettin

I would call this "Old English by way of Tolkien." It is likely that the MM author's awareness of the word "ettin" was due to its presence in Tolkien's books, in the place-names "Ettenmoors" and "Ettendales." http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Ettenmoors http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Ettendales...

D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Hook Horror

Brilliant! I really dig your format and your thoroughness. I prefer that WotC hire Echohawk to complete the encyclopedia and publish it as a series of (phonebook-sized) monster books, containing all the monsters which have ever appeared in the D&D Multiverse. Imagine if WotC sponsored a...

List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

I found only evidence of the Exodus RPG, which was slated to be Fallout, but was stripped of its IP at the last moment. But I still added it to the list, for that reason. Thanks!

List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

From doing this research, I found out that, besides the d20/OGL boom, there are three systems which especially have covered a bunch of IPs from non-RPG sources: 1) GURPS, 2) Standard RPG System (in Japan), and 3) Lester Smith's D6XD6 system, which just came out this year--it looks like he's...

List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

Here's a list of Tabletop RPG licensed settings/worlds ("intellectual properties") which began in another medium before being rendered in TTRPG form. RPGs based on "unlicensed" public domain settings (such as Alice in Wonderland, Baron Munchhausen, and Wizard of Oz) aren't included...

List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

I'm putting together a list of fictional settings from other (non-RPG) media which have ever been officially published as a TTRPG, such as Star Wars and Conan: https://sites.google.com/site/dndphilmont/ttrpgsettings What did I miss?

D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Galeb Duhr

semi-Gaelic? I'm no Gaelic scholar, but it looks like the author picked a quasi-Gaelic (Irish/Scottish) sounding name. "Rock man" in Irish is carraig fear. I'm not saying that is the exact wordshape he was thinking of, but "galeb dúr" does have a semi-Gaelic sound to it.
