    Looking for a city setting

Streets of Silver is also a city book, especially handy if you are playing more renaissance-style.

The DM's Laptop: what should be on it?

I use a laptop to run my games as well. In every session I have the following files open: - Complete Adventure Notes, in Word (the notes for the current adventure are printed out) - Complete (hyperlinked) NPC file (Word) with all the NPCs the party encountered (and which are still alive) -...

The Side Quest, yay or nay?

I have two kinds of sidequests - prepared hooks that may or may not get explored further, and unintentional complications/problems that develop as I wing it. Such sidequest may end up becoming "loose ends" and getting continued in other sessions, or even develop into a plot arc. I aim to have a...

    Player props and play aids

I rarely use props. The most I did was when I draw a map and then draw a "secret map" on it with lemon juice, so that the players could use a lighter to make the "magic map" appear when their PCs managed it.

    Worst 3.5 Change

I don't know either. Back in 2000/2001 when we had just converted to 3E and our paladin got her bonded mount she also found a magical ring in which the mount could be placed in or called forth from 1/day. (The mount had been captured in the ring for some time until it was found by her.) We did...

    D&D 3.x [3.5] Spells (New & Changes)

I kinda like this - one less rogue skill that can be replaced with a single 2nd-level spell (Like Alter Self with regards to Climb, Jump, Disguise and Swim).

Are the writers of WotC Dwarf lovers for 3e/3.5e?

Which is why WotC gave dwarves the ability to move normally in heavy armor - now they are as fast in full plate as the human fighter. Still claim they are balanced?

    Do you use NPC classes!?!

I use commoners for peasants, most servants etc., if I bother to stat them at all. Usually only those NPCs who run the risk of entering combat gets stats, and not even all of those. I more often use aristocrats and experts for statted NPCs, if it is applicable, but those as well often only get...

    Journeys To Other Planes

It depends. In my Shadowrun campaign, I use metaquests as a sort of plane hopping, change-of-style sidetreks, where I get to use any setting I fancy - I used the worlds of a dozen SF and fantasy novels, movies or comics, or derivates from those, as well as completely made-up worlds for the...

    Worst 3.5 Change

Ok, for me "making a significant difference" means more than taking a bit more time and ressources - I consider a significant difference the difference between a "average" fight and a TPK. And DR is only one part of the balance. There could be creatures with very high ACs and hit points for low...

    Worst 3.5 Change

I wonder about your non-fighters. A level 3 rogue with a rapier does 3d6 damage when flanking - average of 10.5 damage. A wizard can (and should) use his spells in that situation - it is tailor made for the quick punch magic missile and other spells provide. A cleric may be "reduced" to keep the...

    Worst 3.5 Change

They were level 14 characters, not level 15, and one of them had a really suboptimal sword - the creature was immune to his cold burst damage - and rolled really bad with his attacks. At low level I doubt DR 5 will make that much of a difference - take for example a greatsword with some...

    WalMart delays?

I usually expect to get new WotC products a month late here in Switzerland (Which is why I am fond of PDFs). My interest in 3.5E has been waxing lately, so it does not bother me anymore. Now, if only "Testament " would arrive today...

    [OT] Carrying a knife

In Switzerland, the laws concerning bladed weapons are somewhat stupid. Since we all love our swiss army knives, blades of that size are not considered weapons - you can carry it with you. Longer blades (don't know the exact size) are considered weapons and you are not allowed to carry them...

    Worst 3.5 Change

I tried a creature with DR 15/- against two Level 14 PCs and it was no problem for them to kill the creature, despite ac 30 (iirc) and 116 or so hit points. Since DR 15 is about the highest you go I really don't see a problem with DR even if you cannot bypass it - regeneration though is another...

D&D 3.x [3.5] Difficult terrain may now prevent 5 foot steps.

I meant, can you circumvent the movement restrictions with jumping or tumbling? I can imagine some situations where walking would be difficult and slow, but jumping or tumbling would be easy - say a room full of furniture.

D&D 3.x [3.5] Difficult terrain may now prevent 5 foot steps.

Will be interesting to see how difficult terrain works with tumble and jump.

Will anyone play test 3.5 "as is"?

Not for me. Of my two current campaigns one started back in 2E and got converted when 3.0E was out and the other was started in the summer of 2001 and has been running weekly since then. My campaigns usually run for years.

Will anyone play test 3.5 "as is"?

No. I have houseruled 3.0E extensively, and don't see the point in testing a system whose designers did not have the same goals I have in mind when the revised it. I don't follow either the "Back to the Dungeon" motto of the designers or the standard wealth/level tables. I don't have many...
