Actually, I can't believe I didn't remember to list this scene: #6: Hunters versus the Gendarme SWAT Team: https://www.enworld.org/threads/describe-your-last-rpg-session-in-more-than-5-words.687540/page-11#post-9265935

On This May The 4th, Let's Celebrate Star Wars TTRPGs. +

Best scenes from the now 3-year-old campaign: 1) Assault on the Plantation House: This came up as one of the players favorite memories. Early in the campaign the Bounty Hunters were assigned to recover a smuggler who friendly witness against a corrupt Prefect who had mysteriously vanished from...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I've got two crowd funding purchases for Mothership, which is funny because I don't own the base game. One is a supplement on bounty hunters and the other is a supplement for derlict space craft. I'm planning to use both to help provide ideas for gameplay in my ongoing Star Wars bounty hunter...

    Race Level Restrictions. HELP PLEASE!

I'm a 3.0e player though I have been playing since the early 80s and have some familiarity with the Basic/Expert and 1e AD&D versions of the game. It sounds to me like you have very specific opinions on how the game should be played, and accordingly it doesn't feel in your questions like you...

How Fantastical Do You Like Your Fantasy World?

Yes. This is something Gygaxian D&D considered very little, and more recent versions of D&D didn't consider at all, with the result that if you take the magic in the setting seriously, then global economies should look radically different from what is portrayed in D&D source books. The setting...

How Fantastical Do You Like Your Fantasy World?

I prefer the world to be both explainable and comprehensible. While I love weird, and for example think that Nitro Ferguson's idea of basing the gods of his world on 20th century pop stars is very cool, what is not cool is Nitro's desire to play "gotcha" with his players and keep them in a...

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

I don't understand what this means. I don't disagree with that claim but unless you were using very extensive house rules or played only a few times at 1st level, the claims I made in my post would apply to any way you played 1e AD&D.

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

Method III generates consistently playable characters but gives the player little control over what that character will be. I wish I had used it more back in my 1e DMing days.

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

Mt. Dew was definitely present, but we also had the cheddar flavored Sun Chips. Soda options were always Mt. Dew, Dr. Pepper, and Coke-Cola. Pizza rolls I can't ever remember having, but that's because we always had cheap pepperoni pizza from Dominos or Little Caesars (Pizza! Pizza!) except...

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

He's having multiclassing work more like human dual classing. If you were a human dual classed cleric/M-U, your casting ability as an M-U was still restricted by armor. An elf multiclassed in to say Fighter/M-U worked differently, but this was by design and was restricted by harsh level caps.

    D&D General 1e feel for 5E

I largely agree with your list and what you've really shown is just how little like D&D, D&D has become and how more and more it's trying to be a tabletop cRPG, and also why I have had had no interest in new editions of D&D since 3.0e. However, I don't agree with point #4 or #5 at all, as the...

    D&D 3.x Haste question

While true, it's also not the reason Haste in 3.0e was considered unbalanced. The partial action is actually fun and you can use it in a lot of interesting ways, it's just the two spells a round that had an extreme detrimental impact on the game. In the case of gaining an extra attack, this is...

    D&D 3.x Haste question

Basically, yes,, though this solution is equivalent in most respects to the 3.5e solution that increases movement speed and gives you an extra attack action. So the general idea of 3.0 Haste from an optimization perspective is that it's better than or as good as "Time Stop" which is a 9th...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

As far back as Dragon magazine articles on the Goblin deities as opposed to the orc deities, I picked up on this. I was getting old enough that I was starting to wonder where all this kitchen sink diversity came from and whether it made sense as a story of a world. In Tolkien orcs and goblins...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

How many of the players under 25 are players (usually children and family members) of DMs over 40? The trouble is that D&D is now a mature hobby and I'd guess the majority of people brought into it are brought into it by an older family member. If you lose the over 40s to a different game...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

It's strictly true, in that orcs are either not people or else they people. But it's also misleading. To talk about it, I'm going to move from talking about orcs to goblins (and probably more Star Trek and sci-fiction). The trouble is that being a person doesn't necessarily imply being...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

LOL. Ok. I can't make you believe that, but at least to me it feels self-evidently true. Get on social media and you'll find blocks of people with very radically different beliefs and critiques. That's a completely unrelated question. Traditionally D&D leaned on the side of, "Here are some...

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

They got into that mud as soon as they started treating goblins and gnolls differently than orcs. They rolled in it, and I suspect now they are going to find themselves dealing with the consequences. A coherent explanation won't satisfy the most radical critics on either side. Leaving well...
