D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

They aren't deadlier. They are just a little less deadly, rather than trivial. And what you are describing doesn't differentiate between experience at survival, it merely differentiates between level. So a level 10 wizard who has never camped a day in their life and spent all their time in the...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

But why, from a story perspective, should sleeping in a blizzard or stepping into a tornado or swimming through lava ever be trivial? The environment is a key antagonist in a lot of great stories. Why do I want to take that off the table? Let's say I'm designing a game for a level 10 party...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

How do you know they feel that way? And why would they? To me, that's exactly like saying, "if I make them fight a tarrasque, they feel like I'm not respecting their investment," but I presume you keep raising the bar on the creatures they fight. So why do some kinds of obstacles count as...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

So that they pose a challenge. Otherwise...what's the point? I wouldn't have them change in terms of their impact on the wider environment - an f5 tornado is an f5 tornado, or whatever. But I would definitely scale their damage so that they remain a significant threat to players. My reasoning...

Darth Maul has a great look and fight scene, but he's barely a character, IMO (what's he have, three lines?). I think Ewen Mcgregor's Obi Wan is easily the best character in that entire series - the best acted, with a believable arc. I might agree about the bright spots...I dunno...the battle...

Obi-wan and Qui-gon? And an admittedly great lightsaber duel - sure. But for me, the sins of the film are so egregious, in so many ways, that they completely overwhelm its few strengths.

Genre films, sure, but hard to square "lowbrow" with Hitchcock (at least, not in his mature phase), Kubrick, and Spielberg (well, maybe sometimes). Especially those movies!

I wasn't quoting you (I don't think I directly quoted anyone; if I did it was unintentional). I think you and I probably have similar thoughts on this issue.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

There seems to be a pervasive myth that "Made in China" means "low quality," and so it would be simple for companies to relocate and make even better stuff someplace else (i.e. the US). As every games company has attested, that is emphatically not the case in our hobby. Decades of investment and...

Rotten Tomatoes publishes old reviews. But yeah, Goodfellas was, and is, the critical darling whereas Dances was very much the more populist pick. Also, Goodfellas is by one of the definitive 70s auteurs, Scorsese, and would fit right into that decade. It’s quite a bit ironic to cite it as an...

D&D General What races/species populate your DnD world?

That's basically what I do at the start of the campaign - I like the players to feel free to be creative with their character concept, as long as it is balanced. I can work with them to make most ideas fit into the game.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

I feel like those involved in the current tariff situation read the title of this thread and replied, "challenge accepted!"

Or...here's a hot take...maybe they actually like those films? Maybe having watched a lot of movies, and being passionate about movies, makes them more discerning in their tastes, so that they are less stimulated by mass-produced, predictable, unoriginal multiplex eye candy? Or yeah, maybe...

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

It would still suck that they had to turn the next five years of salaries into a massive tax bill, though. Why shouldn't the consumer have to pick up the bill?

D&D General What races/species populate your DnD world?

Basically, my world includes any official or Critical Role species that a player is inspired to choose, except for Aaracroa because I don't want to deal with flying out of the gate. I definitely mix things up; I keep some of the more traditional cultural stereotypes, but there are plenty of...

    Our Physical Fitness

Huh - never tried creatine, but after reading this I did some reading and it seems to have some solid research backing up moderate use, so I ordered some. Anything that helps recovery hurt less! Edit: my work-outs are basically aimed at maintaining overall fitness as I age, so I do one every...

I cannot watch a show that has a laugh track. I generally don't like sitcoms to begin with (there are a few notable exceptions), but if there's a laugh track, I'm a "nope." It makes me feel like, "you're not the boss of me - if you want me to laugh, make a funny."
