How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

For folks in our hobby, the China tariffs remain the crux. China has not only the facilities, but the expertise to make exactly the kinds of detailed, high quality plastics that are central to so much of what we do, from dice to token to miniatures. A company such as Wizkids or Steve Jackson...

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

Eh, I just use common sense. No need to overcomplicate things. I agree that the use of the word "invisible" is unfortunate, but I've expressed my thoughts on 2024's unfortunate preference for keywords in another thread.

Could he, though? Because, in the underrated pile, I'm going to put Dredd, where Karl Urban embodies the character. Mind you, Stallone deserves all the accolades you can give for Rocky, the role he was born to play.

What are you reading in 2025?

I just read Tchaikovsky's latest, Shroud. It's good - a survival narrative partially written from the perspective of a bizarre alien intelligence. Which is his sci-fi specialty. Not his best - the human protagonists are a bit hard to get behind - but still very good.

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

In the meantime, it seems like the best game companies can do is go day to day and try to manage the volatile situation as best they can.

D&D General New Sticker Feature on DDB Maps VTT

I can't imagine that resizing token would be a huge step, since it is easily done with the stickers, which are essentially the same thing. You can also reorient them, lock them in place, and make them invisible (so for a secret door, for example).

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

Everyone should read this article - it really drives home what this is doing to the folks who make the games we love, as well as explaining why "just make it in America" is not a viable solution.

According to their website, they important the plastic from Spain. I think it's proprietary.

How many years does it take for an RPG to become nostalgic, for you?

The only game I'm truly nostalgic for is AD&D (1e). You never forget your first. And it's not the rules I'm nostalgic for (even at the time, I knew a lot of them didn't make sense), it's the experiences, and the books themselves - reading them over and over again.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Underrated: Papergirls (TV show) - this only got one season on streaming, and the first few episodes are kind of a mess, but the last few are some of the best TV of the 2020s. Overrated: The Mandalorian - some of the episodes are fun, but the meta-plotting is terrible, reaching true absurdity...

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Not gonna hate on you, but I do find that film unbearably tedious, and as usual (outside of Dawn of the Dead) Snyder misses the point of the original entirely.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

    1. The Incredibles - no other superhero film captures the essence of the Silver Age like this one does. Or the essence of a mid-life crisis. 2. The Dark Knight - Heath ledger's Joker is as iconic as character as film has produced, and the film offers a provoking meditation on our fascination...

D&D General New Sticker Feature on DDB Maps VTT

This works really well, and was on my short list of features that I would like to see. There's a new tab for "stickers" with overhead views of things like trees, chests, rugs, doors, etc. that you can place on maps and resize as needed. Very easy to use and makes the maps more customizable...

What are you reading in 2025?

I'll probably read it - I keep reading Scalzi even though all of his recent novels have been various flavours of disappointment.

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Okay, but it's still a dumb movie that is poorly acted. And by obvious tropes, I mean that the way it makes fun of obvious tropes is, in itself, obvious and cliched. There's nothing clever happening, and Schwarzenegger is just not up to the job he is being asked to do. There are far, far better...

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Eh, most of that old swords and sorcery stuff is overrated because of nostalgia. It's not super deep or accomplished writing. More like popcorn entertainment. I agree - overrated. I still kinda love it, though. Nah, it's terrible - very predictable and falls back on lazy tropes. Schwarzenegger...

Yeah, so I generally despise Snyder's films but I concur on this one being an underrated gem. Of course, having Sarah Polley, Mike Weber, Mekhi Phifer and Ving Rhames as your leads doesn't hurt. The open 10 minutes of this film is a masterpiece of condensed story telling. Underrated! Overrated...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

I have a favourite Chris Perkins memory - not that he's dead or anything - that I'd like to share. His second appearance on Critical Role is an absolute delight. He plays Spurt the kobold, an 11 day old kobold "inventor" (skunk-on-a-stick; pot of green slime) who briefly assists our heroes...

"I think Hydrogen is a rare element" and other science facts.

The science mistake that always annoys me the most is when people are exposed to space and they either explode or insta-freeze or both. The almost complete vacuum will definitely do damage fast, especially if you didn't exhale first, but you aren't going to suddenly pop. And space isn't cold...
