    Character Creator's Block

One weird thing about the scout - correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that he can find traps, but can't do anything about them. Right?

    Character Creator's Block

Very interesting. I was just looking at a build for a rogue 3/swashbuckler 3 in this post. Mind you, I was complaining about the AC, so take it with a grain of salt. :) I can give you the skill point break-down too, if you like; the usual open lock and disable traps stuff. I didn't put much...

Adding new abilities to specific magic weapons/armor

This was hashed out a little while ago in this thread: Cost to add +1 ability to Specific Weapon It was rather contentious, but a fairly common conclusion (I am not sure if it constitutes a consensus) was that you ignored the special abilities/restrictions of the base item, and tried to boil...

    Changing Favored Enemy?

Thanks! :) I'm glad you like it. Although I was thinking that the ranger would have a bunch at +0 that could be subbed in for a greater bonus. For instance, a first level ranger might have a +2 against elves, but he could retrain to make it +2 against aberrations. It is like a +2/+0 which...

    Contest: Cool Cantrip Concepts

I'm sad that Celebrim took down his cantrips. :( At least he could have put up one of his favorites as an entry to the contest.

    Changing Favored Enemy?

@Nonlethal Force: Good point about the RP. And as far as a tuning device, I'm inclined to think that it's kinda like a rogue's sneak attack- the class is balanced assuming that the ability is always going to be useful. Maybe I'm wrong. But having encounters with multiple different types would...

    Changing Favored Enemy?

Sounds like people are pretty cool with the idea that the retraining that can occur at level up could also apply to a ranger's favored enemy. I think that this 1/level retraining would amount to a -2 to one FE bonus, and a +2 to another. Subject to the rule that no FE bonus could be higher...

Whats a reasonable AC at 10th level?

These numbers all seem terribly high. I can see level + 20 for tanks - heavily armored clerics and fighters, say. But what about the rogues and swashbucklers and such? (Or daring outlaw rogue/swashbucklers!) Do they have to spend all their wealth on AC buffs just to be considered "fair"...

The "Price That Magic Item" Game!

This talk of banning reminds me of when people first laid eyes on the Mystic Theurge. :uhoh: Give it a chance: it might not be as bad as it seems. In building characters I am finding it awfully difficult, even with the new prices, to tear myself away from the big six.

    Weapon Aptitude for Fighters?

I wasn't looking at it from the standpoint of making the fighter class more attractive. Just that martial feats are a fighter's schtick, and a warblade shouldn't exceed them in their area of strength. Since a warblade gets Weapon Aptitude at 1st level, that's the latest a fighter should get...

    Changing Favored Enemy?

I was looking through PHB2 - specifically, the section on retraining. There is provision there for changing languages known and feats and even class specific choices like Wizard Specialization, Clerical Domain, or Ranger Combat Path (Archery vs TWF). But either I'm blind or it doesn't mention...

    Dragon Magazine #341 p82

That seems more Knightly Code than Lawful Good. What you did was unchivalrous. But the demands of chivalry did not apply when fighting bandits, wild animals, etc.; I would assume that most monsters (especially those with chaotic and/or evil tendencies) would fall outside of the code.

    Daring Outlaw...A Too Powerful?

What would you use, AnonymousOne, in place of Improved Sneak Attack and Quickstrike? Well, I suppose it is one less feat if you replace the fighter level with a swashbuckler level (for BAB and hit points). Or maybe you could take a flaw. Are there any skill tricks you would pick up?

    CR and EL Calculations

I'm been trying to figure out the mathematical basis behind Table 3-1: Encounter Numbers (DMG p. 49). Here's what I have so far: It seems that there is a variable that can be calculated by figuring out how many creatures of various CRs there are in an encounter, and that this number can be...

Any Feats For Smiting and Favoured Enemy?

Dragon #326 had a flaw called "Living Faith" which meant that you couldn't turn or rebuke the undead. You could use that flaw to pay for Extra Smiting.

    Anybody know a little Latin?

Since it isn't *this* world whose structure (or ratio) you are discussing, maybe drop in an "alteri". That would yield "De Principiis Rationis Mundorum Alterorum" Roughly, "Concerning the principles of design of other worlds"

    Weapon Aptitude for Fighters?

Warblades (Bo9S) have an extraordinary ability called Weapon Aptitude. One of its benefits is that all but two of the warblade levels count as fighter levels when qualifying for feats and prestige classes. (So a 6th level Warblade is eligible for weapon specialization). However, the ability...
