    Filling out my 3e collection

I'm looking to fill some gaps in my 3e collection over the next couple of months (not "upgrading" to 4e) and want some advice. I have Races of Stone, but never got around to picking up the rest of the Race series, is it worth my money to try and get them? I'm also wondering about Cityscape...

Here's why the RPGA has failed me

I've also got a slug of these emails, for events that I was unfortunately unable to run 3 1/2 years ago. I think "some time has passed" is understating things a bit.

How much money have you spent on 3.x?

I'm likely past the $3000 mark and well on my way to $4000. Of course, I cut way back a couple of years ago, but really the "damage" was done by then. As for its impact on 4e. Yeah it has a significant impact on my decision not to "upgrade". I'm carving a comfortable 3.75 rut and I don't see...

The Book of Experimental Might: Now in Print!

As the coming onslaught of 4e doesn't have me concerned, I'll likely pick this up. Of course, I was following the house rules discussion when the concept began, so I've had an interest for a few months now. I don't know how much of it I will use, but I expect I'll get my money's worth out of it.

Basic D&D: Did it hook you?

    Yep, that's the one officer.

How old were you when you started playing D&D?

I was 11, 1980. My great uncle got me the basic red box for my birthday. I'll be getting my kids hooked young too, my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter are fascinated by my dice and minis and my son sat and watched us play for about 10 minutes last week, so it's already starting.

    Campaign start tonight, need HELP!

I've been slammed at work and now I've 3 hours before I begin my new campaign, for which I am woefully unprepared. I would appreciate any suggestions one an adventure to get this thing rolling. Here's the pertinent info: Nordic campaign - barbarians, harsh winter climates, basically your...

Explain the appeal of critical fumbles to me

Funny you should mention Dysentery, it actually did play a role at my last table. Well, more of an off-stage role. Whenever a player couldn't make the game, that particular character came down with a case of Dysentery and was out of action and don't even get me started about Dire Dysentery...

    d6: pips or numbers?

I use pips for character creation but use numbers for all other occasions.

3.X Zombies: How Can They Be More Of a Threat?

Here's something I'm kicking around but haven't gotten to the stats yet. Bear in mind this comes from my 5 year old son who, through no prompting from me, is quite aware that to kill a zombie you must cut off his head - for the full details of that check out my blog - Exsilium . Anyhow, here's...

    Dragon 361 Editorial

I'm not terribly surprised by this announcement nor am I particularly concerned by it. Dragon died for me at issue 359. I've given little attention to it's electronic incarnation and don't expect that to change in the future. I certainly have no intention of paying for its content. It only...

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

Okay, just popping in to say that I absolutely love E6. I've seen it floating around now for awhile, but never really delved into it. I'm sorry it's taken me this long. E6 is exactly what I am looking for and I will be using it in my next campaign and hopefully in many campaigns to follow.

How to make 'being surrounded by enemy crossbowmen' deadlier?

It figures that as soon as my Support Account expires I'd need to run a search on something. So until I can get reactivated, is there a consolidated source of e6 threads? I've glanced at them passingly, but now my curiousity is nagging me.

    X. It's what's for dinner.

Up until now food hadn't played a role in my games at all, that's going to be changing.

    D&D 3.x Recommend a good 3.5 Ed Character Sheet

Well I had been using the sheets that Necromancer Games had created (sometimes I like to throw a 1st Edition look at my players and throw them all off) but now that I've taken a look at Ema's, I'm never going back!

    XP for Traps?

Even if the party rogue discovers the trap and renders it harmless, the party did learn something and there was always the possibility of something going horribly wrong. Additionally, as stated above, using that trap to complicate an encounter should warrant a boost in the XP award. I award my...

    Gaming and Jury Duty Discrimination?

I have never served jury duty, though I would have enjoyed the opportunity. The one time I actually had the chance I was excused because the $15/day in the height of the agriculture season (at the time I was in Irrigation Operations for an Irrigation District) was just impossible to live with...

    The Deck of Many Things

I only use the deck when a character returns from death. One of the requirements of returning from the dead is paying the Queen of Thieves (goddess of rogues) for the theft of a soul from He Who Knows (god of death and other badness). That payment is drawing from the Deck of Many Things...
