DMG & MM: Players Stay Out?

I guess I've always been lucky in that my players would never try to look up something they were fighting in the middle of an encounter. I sometimes have a player look up problematic rules, but these are usually in the PHB. Since more than half of the group I play with are GMs in their own...

    D&D 4E I'm Not Sure I Can Afford 4e

My current campaign doesn't lend itself to predesigned stuff, or monsters straight out of the DMG. The storyline is nearing the climax. Most of the NPCs are PHB races or monstrs with class levels. The prep time is such a drain on my time that it is a total drag.

    D&D 4E I'm Not Sure I Can Afford 4e

This describes me as well. I can honestly say that I do not enjoy running 3.5 anymore. I am just four major plot points from resolving a continuing FR storyline involving the rebirth of Auppensor. I am happy with the story, the characters, pretty much everything non-mechanical. I had been...

Worlds & Monsters: humans are boring??

I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have used the word boring. But when I read those sections of W&M, it seemed to me that they were talking how the assumed D&D world in previous editions had always been so humanocentric that non-human races felt like aliens. How many non-human nations were there in...

    About Death and Resurrection

Only if gods exist in the campaign. W&M states: "Gods are largely distant and detached from the world (with some exceptions, particularly evil gods). Most don't take an active part in worldly affairs, but they have exarchs and angels who act on their behalf." They go on to state that gods can...

    Where's the Bard?

I'm still holding out for the idea that combat will eat less time in 4e because it flows faster. More time will be left for role-playing. I remember some of the designers claiming that combat would be faster in 4e.

    D&D 4E I'm Not Sure I Can Afford 4e

For some people $200 a year may be a lot of money for a hobby. Myself, I have a wife and three kids. It takes us $50.00 just to go to MacDonalds. A day at the movies runs more than $100. I get a lot more enjoyment out D&D than $200 would buy. I have just about every 3.5 book WotC put out and a...

    Where's the Bard?

I can't disagree enough on this point. I understand that some players may find it fun to play a cowardly character who is ineffectual in a fight. I support that. But designing classes so that this is all you can do with them once the fight begins is just bad design. No character should be...

    About Death and Resurrection

Everyone has their own style. In my own campaigns, I prefer PCs to never have any contact with a god, nor with anyone else who's ever had contact with a god. I don't like them. Since only the DM knows what constitutes a good reason .... Seriously, I dislike the concept of people dying and...

    About Death and Resurrection

I was more excited about the new philosophy on resurrection in 4e than just about anything else. Not only is death more permanent at the heroic tier, but resurrection is no longer just a spell and a financial transaction. It will be harder for characters to die, but death will be more...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

They can. The fact that they are not solo monsters simply means that they can't take on a whole party of PCs the same level that they are. They are tough enough for PCs a few levels lower. The same argument could be made for any number of monsters that gamers perceive as bad dudes. Mindflayers...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

I've done that as well. I will be allowing halflings in my next homebrew since they've become so divorced from hobbits. Gnomes would have been out no matter what. My players know the various (mostly Dragonlance related) reasons for that stance. We have multiple GMs in the group, most of whom...

D&D 4E Green ronin going to do 4e products?

I would be very surprised if Pirates Guide to Freeport didn't have a 4e book. Same goes for any future Freeport stuff. I'll honestly be surprised if we don't see something like Bleeding Edge for 4e.

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

As a GM I have never had any difficulty telling folks that they can't play gnomes or halflings. If you homebrew, you have to be prepared to tell players no.

    Half Sold

Whenever I mention it, the reaction I got was: you're joking, right? Personally, I thought the Basic game was pretty good.

    Dungeon and dragon WOTC forums

I did say most, not all. I've found a lot of good articles in dragon over the years. I have every issue up to the present. I bought the CD when it came out, but I had been collecting from issue #49. I always loved the Ed Greenwood FR articles, Midkemia, Voyages of the Princess Ark, Monster...

    Half Sold

This describes me to a tee. My campaigns had already reached the level of near unplayability, so I was ready to begin anew. I wasn't actually looking forward to starting another D&D 3.5 game. I was considering Basic D&D (no joke!). Everything I've seen so far about 4e has me excited to run it...

    What formulas?

This is my hope as well. I am so tired of doing stat blocks for D&D 3.5 that I almost don't want to GM anymore. I've been GMing about once a week since 1979, so this is a big deal for me.

    Edition proof Fall/Winter products

I must have missed this info. I guess I'll have to buy them now. I was going to get these anyway.

    Dungeon and dragon WOTC forums

You're right about Dungeon, but sadly wrong IMO about Dragon. In 27 years of buying Dragon, very few mechanics appeared that I would allow in my games. The non-crunchy stuff could be excellent at times. Most of the mechanics appearing in the magazine were terrible.
