D&D 4E Playing parts of 4e today: Second Wind

I might steal some of the bloodied effects and second wind stuff for my current games. I also removed the CON minimum on Second Wind. For the same reason - D&D (as currently written) gives PCs fewer hp than SWSE.

    New Sage Advice Video

I reward the characters in my games with a new level whenever the stars are right. Usually after one very long adventure, two long adventures, three medium adventures or four short adventures. I wouldn't even know how many xp they have without consulting a chart somewhere.

D&D 4E Playing parts of 4e today: Second Wind

I introduced second wind in all of my D&D campaigns shortly after seeing the rule in SWSE. The only real difference I see is that the cleric is able to use her spells for more than healing party members. Even in this aspect, it doesn't have an extreme effect on the flow of the game.

Bits and Pieces of Worlds & Monsters

I noticed the Hellraiser similarities myself. Horror is my favorite genre (and Barker one of my favorite authors), and I can use this new shadar-kai. They're cool. :p

    D&D 4E Reinvisioning the Halfling for 4E

I played a 3e halfling once. I got tired of it real fast. Luckily his head got crushed by a fire giant and I was able to replace him with a human. The fact that I was interested enough to build a non-human in the first place is significant. I was probably just excited by their non-hobbitness...

    D&D 4E Yugoloths in 4E

Although individual yugoloths were cool (almost all of them, in fact), as a separate type of creature they never did it for me. I've never used the Great Wheel cosmology, so I never needed a different kind of creature for each alignment. Since it appears that Law and Chaos will be downplayed in...

D&D 4E What will you do first with the 4E PHB?

    1) Flip through and look at the art 2) Read it Pretty much what I always do with RPG books

    Zee Planes Boss!

I doubt it. Demiplanes can still exist. Just as in the Expanded Psionics Handbook, they would be found in the astral sea.

    D&D 4E Reinvisioning the Halfling for 4E

I'm still not excited by the 4e halflings. That said, I will be allowing halflings for only the second time in a homebrew - so I don't hate them. At least they aren't hobbits.

Bits and Pieces of Worlds & Monsters

I'm going to have to disagree with some of the posters here. I like Eberron's lightning rail and airships. They add a distinctive flavor to the world. I'm not advocating making them core, but I like them in the context of Eberron. This pretty much describes my take on it as well. Everyone has...

    Game vs Game System

I will also be using much of the default cosmology. The differences between my game and the flavor/conceits of the new edition include: 1) Much weaker points of light concept. There are larger nation states than in the implied setting, although they are mostly separated by dangerous territory...

D&D 4E 4e Heal info in new Confessions article

It would seem that you've been using a definition of HP at odds with the rules in every edition. Hit points have never been solely about physical damage. It's a bit much to expect a new edition to conform to your house rules.

    D&D 4E The Blood War in 4E?

The Blood War was (IMO, of course) one of the worst story elements ever to work its way into D&D. It always felt trite and uninteresting. I certainly won't miss it. I can't agree enough with the idea that 2e and 3e had too much evil fighting evil in it. I prefer my PCs to fight the evil, thank...

Goodman Games' DDC writer Harley Stroh on Áereth

Let me put on my grumpy old man hat for a moment. Back in the day, modules (that's what we called adventures in those days) came with monsters to fight, cool locations and a hint of a storyline. Some GMs ran them just like they came. We called those GMs and the folks they played with...

    Game vs Game System

An GM who is creative enough to homebrew in the first place should have no trouble tinkering with the system or changing the flavor. I have always ignored setting specific material in the rules, and it has always been there. Remember the racial animosity table in AD&D PHB? 3e monster manuals...

D&D 4E Opinions on the 4E preview books...

In Tucson, we had to call around to various bookstores to even find a copy of W&M. It flew off the shelves as soon as it came in. We finally found two copies at a Barnes & Noble in one out of the way mall. My friend had to take an hour to drive out there and back just so we could get a copy. I...

New FR Dragon Article: The Wailing Dwarf. Reveals some new crunch.

I understand the desire to see a party grow organically rather than being constructed, but I still think most parties would cover all the roles. This may result in a party with more than five members. My own gaming group has six players, plus a GM, so we typically break the mold (although less...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

My source, which I've admitted is purley anecdotal, comes from talking to folks at the game days and conventions I organize. In my experience, the reaction has been mixed, with most folks taking a wait and see approach. I suspect that all of us who really like the changes or really hate them...

D&D 4E 4E Worlds: what are my options? What are you going to do?

I'm rebooting/reimaging a D&D 3e campaign I ran before. I have updated it with 4e races and given it something of a mild PoL flavor. For anyone interested, my players and I are discussing it on my Gaming Blog (url in sig below).

D&D 4E How is the 4e announcement affecting your game groups?

Some of these look like good options for the D&D 3+ edition minicampaigns we will be using between the end of our regular campaigns and the publication of 4e. I may try them out as well.
