    Neuromancer — In Production | Apple TV+

I kind of feel that this has missed it's chance to be radical by several decades.

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

No, they do not. The world doesn’t care what your characters stats are. The world reacts to your character’s appearance and actions. Having a bonus skill or advantage on charm saves is not something the world can see. They are irrelevant to flavour.

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

Flavour needs no mechanics. You can play a half gnome/half dwarf with plenty of flavour without any special mechanics. As for “versatility” that’s a synonym for overpowered.

Dragon Delves Dedicated to Chris Perkins

It would be interesting, and sometimes useful, however, the word count for these books is fixed, and that includes any side bars.

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

I really can't understand this. What's your problem? I mean, the main reason half elf was popular was it was mechanically overpowered. And there is nothing in the new rules that prevents you playing a character of mixed heritage. It just doesn't have a mechanical advantage for power gamers.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

You miss the point. No one cares what YOU find bad taste. You aren’t the people WotC are trying to sell too - you aren’t even American. But I think it’s reasonable to suppose you wouldn’t have bought any of those things you thought were bad taste, no? The people whose taste matters are American...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

Do you understand the term "bad taste", as applied to manners? As in "the comedian's joke was in bad taste"? The relates to culture, and culture is something that continually changes, is different between generations (and countries, obviously) and is not based on logic. In Betjeman's poem "On...

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

That's not going to happen, since they are not going to add one species that uses ASIs, when all the others follow 2024 rules. Note that the Tasha's version is not in the SRD. Any half elf would be 100% homebrew, by necessity.

Dragon Delves Dedicated to Chris Perkins

I was really talking about players failing due to poor decisions, not bad rolls, but I really hate the concept of bad rolls making guards magically appear from nowhere. The consequence of failing to pick the lock is the door remains locked. The players can either look for another way to open it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

Which is the one thing we can be 100% certain would not be in any modern DS revival. Rights aside, any modern D&D product is going to use the modern D&D art style. So, if you don’t want DS with a modern art style, stop asking WotC to revive DS.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

This is the thing that would have certain people clutching at their pearls. Using a modern art style instead of Boris’s chainmail bikinis.

    White Dwarf Reflections #23

They did not have stirrups at the time (they arrived from China around the 8th century CE) which made it difficult to control a horse in battle (no hands free) and easy to unseat the rider. They did use chariots though, and that would be a good fit for Poseidon. The chariot usually has a crew...

D&D General What items can what types of familiar or animal companion use?

A lot depends on how you interpret the intelligence stat though. Earlier editions connected it to sentience, and so familiars had an int boost to make them sentient. But 5e makes no such connection. You could treat a familiar as a sentient being who is just bad at INT skills and saves.

D&D General What items can what types of familiar or animal companion use?

I don’t think the mechanical effects are what is important here though. The “beast” type implies the creature behaves as a real world animal would. A familiar is a spirit masquerading as an animal. There is no reason to suppose it would behave like a real world animal.

    D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

Thing with video games is they also have cosmetic options to differentiate species. So they could continue to include half elf models (with medium ears), and have a selection box for human/elf mechanics. In terms of coding, it's no more or less difficult than including pointed ears options for...

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd Review

In the original module, there was no demiplane of dread. There was only Barovia. The demiplane, and its rules, were not invented until the boxed set.

The First Rule of David Fincher is You Don't Rank David Fincher

Sure, it’s not like you can use irony, satire and sarcasm for comedy, just to amuse people.

D&D General What items can what types of familiar or animal companion use?

It doesn’t modify stats, but creature type does affect some spells and abilities. In which case, the effect is discribed in the spell or ability description.

D&D General What items can what types of familiar or animal companion use?

It changes their creature type. So a cat familiar is a fey or a fiend, not a beast.
