D&D 5E (2014) How many rounds do most of your combats last?

I mean exactly what I said, and I thought that it was pretty clear. High jumping 13' when the world record is 8' is, in my opinion, impressive. "Tall" isn't a number That's it. That's all I said. Kindly stop trying to twist my words into some kind of claim that 5e characters are Superman. I...

D&D 5E (2014) How many rounds do most of your combats last?

Who said it was outside the norm? I think you are conflating my claims with that of the others, I just said 1) it's impressive, and 2) "tall" is ambiguous (and even explicitly said that the build I first mentioned would probably fail to hold up to a reasonable interpretation of the word anyway).

D&D 5E (2014) How many rounds do most of your combats last?

It's like I said when I started, "How tall is tall?" I sorta figured you were thinking something to the effect of skyscrapers, but if I look at something over 20 feet tall, I would think "Wow, that's huge*!" *Gargantuan actually.

Even without any kind of mysticism, you can also add your Dex mod if you are a Thief with Second Story Work.

D&D 5E (2014) How many rounds do most of your combats last?

I mean, how tall is tall? I get the feeling you guys are talking skyscrapers, but FWIW a 7' tall PC in 5e with the right build could grab the ledge of a 42'6" roof, no magic involved.

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Primarily because you didn't specify barbarians when you said... ...and even went so far as to bring up another class' feature when you did. We appear to be on the same page now that I see what you mean. I still think you are underestimating Frenzy's flaws, and personally I prefer the Bear...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

It's also damage that is part of the class outside of the feature in question. Saying Rage damage should count towards Frenzy's total is like saying maneuver damage should count toward the extra attacks from Action Surge, because the attacks the superiority dice were applied to wouldn't have...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Except by doing so, you overvalue Frenzy because you are treating the bonus action like free real estate, when in reality there are many ways to get an extra attack as a bonus action. Sure, Frenzy is the best one, but that doesn't make it okay to assume the others are worthless. Frenzy comes...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

I don't actually dislike Frenzy, I just think saying that it is by far the best low level feature for martial classes is a bit of an exaggeration. If I had to answer I would probably say execution though. Would have been nice if the first frenzy per long rest was free and the exhaustion didn't...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Is it? Let's compare a 3rd level Fighter (Battle Master, 16 Dex, wielding 2 short swords, TWF Fighting Style) with a 3rd level Barbarian (Frenzy, 16 Str, wielding a greatsword) Round 1 (B): The Barbarian rages and takes a single swing. 2d6+5 damage Round 2 (B): The Barbarian takes one swing as...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Emphasis mine. I feel like the bolded word is the important one. If you get really attached to an ideology, but then at some point down the road find a bit of a contradiction you can kinda just try and rationalize it or deal with it, but when the elevator pitch to get me into it in the first...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

There's probably a good deal of that going on too, but given the nature of the hobby I suspect a good deal of them are like myself and just like things to be well-defined. Also, like I said, I find the lore pretty illogical in the first place; are Warforged Druids just supposed to kill...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Found the bad, but influential playtester! Just kidding. The thing I think I've seen people take issue with about the Druid armor restriction isn't that it exists, but rather that it is a lore idea with mechanical consequences and the mechanical side of it is poorly defined. If they just said...

    D&D 5E (2024) Class features with drawbacks

Oh wow, really? I assumed it was the opposite reason. I assumed the designers realized that strengths are more meaningful than weaknesses because players will always play to their strengths while playing around their weaknesses, so giving player options more pluses and minuses just results in...

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

Oh, absolutely. I didn't expect them to give the Warlock the spells for free, I'm just saying that since they aren't free, the choices I am being given should include at least a couple impressive ones. I found them incredibly lackluster. I'm sure there will be plenty of people that disagree with...

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

I agree that a new standard has been set for how good the level 2 ribbon slot feature is supposed to be, but the word I bolded is the operative one. Int mod to initiative is IMO better than half cost for scribing Abjuration spells when looking at the Wizard's career overall, but higher...

Unearthed Arcana Revived, Noble Genie and Archivist Revisited in UA

Are you guys all playing blaster Wizards? I get that Forceballs are great and all, but even if this had a limit like "can only be used a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier. You regain all uses after taking a long rest." I wouldn't see a difference because it would take a long...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

That's fair, I just wanted to clarify, because if the quote gets repeated enough without context, it may give people the wrong idea.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hex Shenanigans

These are two different things, and I agree with exactly one of them. Making one's table an unfun place to be isn't right, even when the DM does it.
