D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

4e did have a character builder, first an offline program and later an online-only one. Both were excellent and regularly updated while they were being supported. What 4e did not have was an online tabletop. That was what the project that ended in tragedy was supposed to deliver. 4e did play...

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Even at a 145% tariff, Chinese products are still the best value available in a lot of product categories. Often Chinese products are the only ones available at all.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

So it's not actually a rule, at least not one that's part of the core books it ostensibly regulates. I wonder why they didn't print this in the PHB?

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone mentioned that SRD5.2 got no Knight?

You're mixing up copyright and trademarks. If Tasha was selling her Hideous Laughter she could get a trademark for it, but she can't because she's a fictional character and Hideous Laughter isn't an actual product being traded.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone mentioned that SRD5.2 got no Knight?

All this means is that you can't write an adventure, write that Sir Peasantkiller is Knight, and be certain that the DM running the adventure will be able to find the relevant stat block in the 5.2 SRD. You can however copy the "Iron Golem" statblock from the SRD, change the name to "Knight"...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Backwards compatibility was always about marketing, about presenting 5.5 as the "same game" as 5e. So the survey responses never mattered for this issue either way, as it was one of the core requirements for One D&D before the project even started.

    D&D General DALL·E 3 does amazing D&D art

Such tools do exist: The long handle means you get a lot of leverage. Steam engines and associated machinery tends to be big, so it makes sense that you need big tools to work on them.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

That's an appropriate phrase to describe how some people respond to this wonderful new technology.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I've discovered AI image generation as side new hobby. It's a lot of fun!

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Ther is no point trying to pretend that generative AI doesn't deliver any value. There is a lot of value to be had from producing something that is worse than the best humans can do, but having it ready vastly faster and cheaper.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

    Those examples aren't about balance.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

It's already way more balance errata than we saw in all of 5e. Whether that's good or bad is up to you, but it's undeniably different from before.

D&D Errata Nerfs Conjuring Spells, Makes Other Changes

I find it interesting that for 5.5 there's extensive errata to fix balance issues, while for 5e they explicitly avoided that and instead almost only published errata to fix actual errors in the text. Are we heading back to the times of 4e, and in 3 years there will have been so many rules...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

AI models do not contain the complete text of the works they have been trained on. That would be physically impossible given that commercial Large Language Models are trained on trillions of words yet only require as much disk space as billions of words. These models encode the concepts, the...

WotC Chris Perkins announces Retirement from Dungeons and Dragons

Just because someone is new to the hobby it doesn't mean they lack the basic skills. They are quite capable of hating change just as well as grognards.

D&D 5E (2024) PC Gamer: It's clear Hasbro, the custodians of D&D, have no idea what to do with Baldur's Gate 3's success

They switched from tactical real-time-with-pause like the original Baldur's Gate games in DA 1 to a button mashing arcade style system in DA2.
