I don't like this change. I feel like the visual impact of the multiple arms disappears when they're not attached to a human torso that isn't supposed to have more than one pair of arms. My first impression of the new illustration was that it was some kind of caterpillar monster.

Balance isn't really a thing anymore, so I would just go with: Replace all the monsters with the closest equivalent in the 5.5 monster manual by name. Replace all skill check DCs with 15. See what happens.

It's also important to actually have a good game. When the game is good people will prioritize attending the game over other fun opportunities that appear. If you have a game that happens consistently every other week for years, then it's probably a good game ;)
