D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

I play in multiple groups and run several as well. My attitude: I think the revision has a lot of power creep and includes a bunch of changes that are neither necessary nor improvements. On the other hand, there are some changes that are good. It's a mixed bag. But overall, I'm not a fan of the...

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

I have mixed feelings about this now. It doesn't seem like JG had any intention of paying those debts themselves, so all Goodman is doing is making the backers whole, since the system is set up to basically not pay Goodman any money. I understand where you're coming from; but this is a debt...

What are must read short stories?

Stephen King's Survivor Type. It's about a surgeon who survives a plane crash and ends up on a deserted island and has to survive. And it's bone-chilling.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Some of the money they spent to do so went to her, so yes, they did.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

Most monsters were literally the same in 2e, just with a stat block with more information. There were a few broad exceptions- the various fiends, dragons, and (IIRC) giants- but overall, the monsters were mostly just expanded, not actually changed (much).

They're in Rime of the Frostmaiden IIRC.

D&D General What modules have you reused for multiple campaigns

By that definition, I've reused- Village of Hommlet Temple of Elemental Evil Keep on the Borderlands Ghost Tower of Inverness Against the Giants Keep on the Shadowfell Tomb of Horrors Expedition to the Barrier Peaks Secret of Bone Hill The first module in Age of Worms (can't remember the title...

D&D General What modules have you reused for multiple campaigns

It's fantastic, with one of the most epic conclusions of any module I have run.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

That's fair. I'm not a fan of a lot of the changes in 5.5 either. I'm happier with 5.0 or 5e Classic or whatever you want to call it.

What Are You Listening To? - Reprise

Been jamming to the new Coheed and Cambria album, Vaxis Act III: The Father of Make Believe. Act II was very synth-poppy; this one sounds a lot more like their earliest couple of albums to me. I like 'em both. But I'm a sucker for Coheed.

    D&D General Deity stats

The 1e version appeared back in Dragon Magazine long ago. Don't have the issue number, but it was, I believe, the same issue as "The Halfling Point of View" by Roger E. Moore.

D&D General History of Planar Development in AD&D: 1977-1980

Also note that the Para-Elemental Planes envisioned in DDG were not the ones that later became the standard version- you had Heat, Vapor, Dust and Ice, vs. the later Magma, Ooze, Ice, and Smoke.

D&D General Do You Play Out Every Combat?

First, I'll say that having the goblins run or surrender IS running the fight to the end. Yes, I usually run the combat until it's done. It matters in terms of resources expended (spell slots, hps, magic item charges, etc). Yes. No. It's not up to me to decide what resources they expend...

Anyone want 44 pages of spells converted to 5e?

It's not impossible, but I'm working hard on my homebrew system at the moment, trying to finish up a bunch of stuff so I can start running it. But I am a fan of sticks to snakes, always loved all those spells taken from the Bible.

Five Takeaways From the 2025 Monster Manual

Yeah, I don't think changing the creature type addresses this issue at all. It just moves the goalposts. I really think 3e had this issue worked out pretty well with its "Often", "Usually", and "Always" alignment header.
