    Hopes for the "Warlord" Class

Works for me. A good battlefield leader can be a force multiplier in the real world. Why not in D&D? There's a layer of abstraction inherent in the description "all allies gain an X bonus for X rounds" that we can hand-wave, but the general concept holds water. From Wikipedia: "A force...

    Warlock?

My understanding was that combat roles wouldn't be tightly connected to classes. A wizard might be a defender, controller or striker, depending on how he's built.

An Open letter to the D&D R&D team.

I think the idea is that it's a value-add for Dragon & Dungeon, rather than the thing you're going to want to pay for. For me, I'd prefer if there was a way to separate the online tools (which won't work on my system anyway) from the actual game content (which I'll be very interested in).

Why? Does your tabletop at home track all these things? The idea is to use an online connection to enable real-life D&D. In real-life, you're on your own to adjucate game rules, track hp, etc.

    Warlock?

It looks like in 4e, there will be no niche for the sorcerer (as all spellcasters will have once-per-round spells), but we will have the warlock. Can anyone give me a quick run-down of the class as it stands in 3e? Themes, game niche, etc.? Thanks in advance, all!

    Video chat for Gaming?

Has anyone here used video chat or other online technologies to play RPGs with friends who aren't living nearby? If so, what was your experience? Any and all comments are helpful, thanks!

An Open letter to the D&D R&D team.

I saw a demo of the virtual tabletop, and it was literally that-- it takes the place of Dungeon Tiles, miniatures and dice. There is a 3-D display that looks just like dungeon tiles, and you can move figures that look just like minis around. You can roll dice, and there is an animation of...

D&D 4E 4E PHB II & DMG II 1 year after release (and a new one every year after that)

For what it's worth, the WotC people that I spoke with in seminars this weekend seemed like sincere, straightforward guys who were a) very smart, and b) very excited about how great the new D&D was. Having worked in many corporate environments over the years, I'm well familiar with fake...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

I think most people here grasp your point, but some just disagree with your value proposition. A lot of people think the value in D&D is its escapism, fun and dissasociaton from real-world themes. They will find edification elsewhere, and want D&D for something else entirely.

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

I agree with you that the game at large doesn't seem to be going that direction. :) What remains to be seen is will it be easier or more difficult to impliment your tastes in 4e. I'm actually guessing that it will be easier: I think that the increased categorization and modularization of...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Well put. See, I hear that, but I'm not entirely for it. Our early D&D games were that way as well, because that's what early D&D was about. Exploration, the dungeon as puzzle, traps that had to be outwitted rather than defeated through class abilities, etc. Over time, the game moved toward...

Gaming Pornography: Will 4th Edition lead to a more Realistic and Useful Game?

Meaning a reduction of the importance of magic items? Me too. Although, I don't expect the PCs to be less fantastic-- they might even be more fantastic/superhero-ish, but less derived from +n trinkets of special ability special ability.

    Per day or per session?

I think it's a given that xp awards will be changed to reflect the faster/more combat rules of 4e. IME, rate of leveling has a stronger relationship to real-world time than other game mechanics.

    D&D 4E 4E = BadWrongFun

This is mostly true. Like other posters have pointed out, some comany support and fan support might continue. Myself, I'll try 4e right away, because I thought 3e was a lot more fun than 2, and if 4 can solve some of 3e's quirks, I'm all over it. But if I wasn't going to switch, I'd still be...

    WotC CEO on Internet retailing

I don't think it was double-speak. It seemed pretty clear to me. I read that interview as he was saying: "We tailor our business to brick and mortar FLGS, because they support our high-involvement product the best. We recognize that online distribution is here to stay, but we prefer to move...

4th Ed. D&D Charater Generation software

I haven't heard anything at this point that indicates the online charcter builder will calculate for you. All I've seen is that it will be an online character sheet that will allow access to the WotC database of new feats, spells, etc. (which alone would be great). Depending on how compex...
